Abstract: This paper seeks to identify the acceptability and beneficial nature of information technology (IT) and traditional awareness programs offered by the Central Library of Taif University to undergraduate students. This descriptive and analytical research has relied on the two descriptive method to measure the study variables. The research outcome has proved that 72.5% of sample individuals have no knowledge of the Library’s awareness programs and 87.5% the surveyed individuals think that the Library’s awareness programs are useful and contributes towards improvement of the students’ academic attainment. This represents a positive feedback on the role of the awareness programs in developing the academic attainment of students and proves that the selected research sample are prepared to deal with these programs. The research outcomes reflect that 65.5% of the surveyed students think that their faculties do not provide programs which encourage students to benefit from these awareness programs. Likewise, more than 75% of the surveyed students informed that they have not benefited from the awareness programs which are introduced by the Library such as pamphlets, training sessions, learning tours and brochures. Obstacles that prevent the students from benefiting from the said programs are identified. We can draw conclusion from this research that there is limited efficiency of methods followed by the Library to promote its activities. Henceforth, there should be revision for these methods in order to ensure their availability to all undergraduate students. The researcher thinks that the Library should undertake intensive promotional a training program to inform about the available Library services through the University’s research portal, library manual and pamphlets. The researcher also believes it is necessary to train the library and information specialists and offer a mandatory course on library science at first year level, or at least its content include in the curriculum of a general course.

Faculty of Economics and Administration- King Abdulaziz University – Jeddah- KSA.

E-mail: : [email protected]

Abstract: This study introduces the transformational leadership concept and compare it with the Caliph Omar Bin Abdulaziz’s leadership style. It provides a practical model for how to build the transformational leader. The study follows the descriptive analytical method; (content analysis) depending on what was written about the Caliph Omar Bin Abdulaziz in books and biographies. The study concludes that the Caliph Omar Bin Abdulaziz’s leadership demonstrates the best model of ethical transformational leadership. His leadership style is influenced by the teachings of Islam. The results show the similarity between the characteristics of the transformational leadership concept and the characteristics of the Islamic leadership approach. The transformational Muslim leader plays the same transformative role, but with an additional value dictated to him by his Islamic teachings. Consequently, all (Islamic leaderships) are transformational leaderships, but not all (transformational leaderships) are Islamic leaderships. The transformational leadership can be taught and learned wherever the necessary skills (inborn or acquired) are available. The major recommendations of the study are: establishing training schools and centers to follow-up trainees from childhood to adulthood. To introduce the role models of the Islamic leaders’ biographies through educational curriculums. Public institutions’

strategy should include building leaders and adopting an inherent rule to prepare second row leaders. Then, exploring the comprehensive and subjective ideology of the Islamic thought and spreading it for the well-being of the whole humanity.

Applying Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to Investigate Factors Affecting Academic Staffs’ Intention Toward Using E-assessment as Evaluation Tools in

Online Courses

Abdulhameed Rakan Alenezi

Assistant Professor - Instructional Technology Department, Faculty of Education Aljouf University – Saudi Arabia.

E-mail: [email protected]

Abstract: Due to new educational reforms and frameworks being influenced by the growing role of ICT internationally, pressures have been created on educational system. Despite of enormous support given to use the Learning Management System (LMS) in blended and online learning, the academic staff usage of online course assessment features such as open discussion forum and electronic assessment is still limited. There is a requirement for a more engaged and malleable educational context through web-based tools. The ability of such features in making the learning environment more flexible and interactive is needed. Therefore, this research attempts to apply Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to investigate in depth academic staffs’

intention toward using e-assessment as evaluation tool in online courses. As a means of responding to the problem, a quantitative research method was adopted through web based survey. The questionnaire was distributed to 154 academic staff using Blackboard system in order to ensure that the academic staff is currently using online courses. The results indicated that the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was applicable to measure the academic staff intention towards using e-assessment as evaluation tool in online courses. The main constructs of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) namely attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavior control was significant predictors of the academic intention in using online assessment tools.

Extended TPB to including the main constructs of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) namely; perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness was significantly contributed. The results indicated that the most construct was contributed towards academic intention was Perceived Usefulness (PU) followed by Perceived Behavioural Control (PBC) and Subjective Norms (SN). The proposed model accounted 72.2 % of total variance of the academic staff intention to use e- assessment. Therefore, several suggestions and recommendations were proposed.

Keywords: Online learning, web-based assessment, Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB).
