Cours e Syllabus Catalog Description:
This course discusses the processes, methods, techniques and tools that organizations use to manage information systems/software/IT projects. The course covers a systemat ic methodology for initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects. This course assumes that project management in the modern organization is a complex team based activit y, where various types of technologies (including project management software as well as software to support group collaboration) are an inherent part of the project management process. This course also acknowledges that project management involves both the use of resources from within the firm, as well as contracted from outside the organization.

How to define a schedule and how to allocate the resources for each step of this schedule?
How to manage the communications between the project stakeholders?
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

By the completion of the course the students should be able to
1. Cite and prioritize information systems projects and to determine various aspects of feasibility of these projects.
2. Identify the foundations of project management, including its definition, scope, and the need for project management in the modern organization.
3. Identify the phases of the project management lifecycle.
4. Manage project teams, including the fundamentals of leadership and team motivation.
5. Manage project communication, both internal to the team, and external to other project stakeholders.
6. Initiate projects, including project selection and defining project scope.
7. Manage project schedules with appropriate techniques and tools.
8. Manage project resources, including human resources, capital equipment, and time.
9. Manage project quality, including the identification of the threats to project quality,
techniques for measuring project quality, and the techniques for ensuring project quality is achieved.
10. Manage project risk, including the identification of project risk, and the techniques for ensuring project risk is controlled.
11. Manage the project procurement process, including understanding external acquisition and outsourcing, as well as the steps for managing external procurement.
12. Manage project execution, including monitoring project progress and managing project change, and appropriately documenting and communicating project status.
13. Control projects through information tracking and cost and change control techniques.
14. Close projects, including administrative, personnel, and contractual closure.
15. Identify and describe the mechanisms for dealing with legal issues in complex project contexts.
16. Appreciate ethnic cultural differences in working with global teams either internal to organizations or by engaging offshore outsourcers.

Cours e Policy Attendance
Attendance less than 75% will be barred from entering Final Examination.
A lack of attention to regular attendance deprives students of interaction and exchange of ideas and knowledge.
You are required to attend all exams and final exam. If an exam is not taken, an F will be assigned.
There will be no make-up exams or quizzes.
You are responsible for all work covered in class. If you are not present during an announced or unannounced quiz, you will not be able to earn the points available.
Be punctual for lectures and labs. There is the possibility that students may arrive late due to unforeseen circumstances (exception). Late arrivals create disruptions to our learning environment. If there is a trend, you will be prevented from entering the class or may be dropped from the class.
Classroom guidelines
Class participation is encouraged.
Avoid classroom disruptions. Radios, cassette/cd players, pagers and cellular phones must be turned off during class. Secondary conversations and socializing are the most disruptive in a classroom environment. You will be asked to leave the classroom if you are creating an environment that is not conducive to our learning process.
Respect for the individual
Grading Policy
There will be No bonus point for any type of assessments. No additional work will be given to raise grades. The marks given are final.
Submission Protocol
Assignments must be submitted in blackboard before the deadline.
Assignments will not be accepted after the submission deadline.
Students are expected to establish earlier personal deadlines to ensure timely completion and submission of assignments.
Collaboration
The students are permitted to study in groups to prepare for examinations so long as the resulting exam demonstrates your individual mastery of the concepts and skills tested.
Group work
The students are permitted to work in groups only for designated ‘group projects,’ which you are to submit as a group. All other assignments are to be prepared individually.
The instructor had the right to allocate different marks for each member in the group if no balance of work had been carried out.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is an offence. Plagiarism includes submitting as any work your own work that was written by someone else or directly derived from someone else. No copy and paste will be accepted. A program is directly derived from someone else’s program if it is identical to someone else’s program except for minor changes such as reformatting, change of variable names, etc.
Penalty will be imposed for such offence.
Conduct during Quizzes, Tests and Examinations
Follow FCIT and University Rules. No Abaya, bags, books, mobile device and laptop are allowed.
Those who caught cheating will not be allowed to continue with the exams, will be sent to disciplinary committee and exam papers will be marked as zero.
Rules for Sending Your Instructors E-mails Please use blackboard for sending e-mails.
In case of sending private e-mail, the subject of email must be: CPIS334- Question Summary- SectionName-First and Last name of student
Address the instructor with an appropriate salutation and by name using his or her correct title.
Don’t ask for information you can find on your own or bother your instructor with minor problems.
Do not write with Capital letter and exclamation mark (!). It is rude since indicate that you are screaming and yelling.
Be clear and comprehensive.
Avoid abbreviations and acronyms. Keep the content professional.
Use complete sentences, correct punctuation, and capitalization. Check your spelling.
Give the instructor time to respond.
How will your grade be determined?
Instructors do not “give” grades. You earn your grade.
Some students may simply choose not to put forth the effort required to obtain a good passing grade. The instructors leave that choice to the student.
