Executive Summary of Mode Al Ojaimi, M.D.

Mode Ojaimi is an American Board Certified General Pediatrician from State University of New York- SUNY – Syracuse.

After graduating as MD from the American University of Beirut in 1996, Mode completed her Residency in General Pediatrics at SUNY. While in the US, she developed expertise in Pediatrics Primary Care and Pediatric Hypnosis. She was often placed on the dean’s honor list during her BS in Biology and is recipient of the Teaching Award from SUNY.

In 2000, Mode started her private practice as Pediatrician in Amioun, Northern Lebanon, enjoying a successful career till today. She served as the Chair of the Pediatrics Department in FMC from 2015-2019 where she established a successful department, its rules and protocols. Dr Ojaimi is also affiliated to many hospitals in the North where she served as member of Infectious Diseases Committee, Medical Board Committee and Pediatric Scientific Committee. She is a reference for complicated pediatric cases in Northern Lebanon. Mode served also with Caritas for 8 years as the Pediatrician in charge of the Koura District Sector. She led many campaigns related to improving the health of the underprivileged and refugees.

In 2008, Mode joined the Lebanese American University (LAU) as Assistant Professor of Pathophysiology and Physiology at the School of Pharmacy. In 2008, she joined University of Balamand (UOB) where she successfully established the Pediatric Clinic in the infirmary.

Currently, Mode is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Balamand Medical School - BMS. She was in charge in 2012 of changing the existing curriculum into the one used till date and developed expertise in academic medicine curricular design and implementation in Medical Schools. She implemented NBME and community clinical skills rotations in Med II hence bridging the gap between BMS and the surrounding community. She is Head of the Med II teaching committee and is a member of many academic committees in BMS.

Mode is pioneering innovation in medical education being the founder and medical director of the Balamand Medical Simulation Center (BMSC). In addition of being certified as Lead Instructor for BLS and ACLS disciplines from AHA, mode is leading a multidisciplinary health care team in the design and customization of medical simulation courses. In this regard, she led several initiatives with NGOs such as UNHCR, governmental and community hospitals to improve the level of emergency health care among Health Care Professionals.

Dr Ojaimi research interests are in Clinical Pediatrics and Academics. Her abstract won first Prize in Neonatology conference in Calgary in 2018. She is also member of the Editorial Board of

“Updates in Pediatrics” Journal. She is a national and international speaker about pediatric diseases and health issues. She has given many awareness lectures about pediatric health in local schools. She served as “Invited Judge” for the theses of Med IV students in Holy Spirit University of Kaslik for the last 3 years.

Mode completed her Executive Masters in Business Administration in January,21 hoping to optimize her communication, managerial and leadership skills.

Medical Education Skills 1-Simulation

-Developing and implementing multiple simulation courses for Med II students that enable them to easily transfer into the clinical setting in Med III which include: Nursing skills, Pharmacology of cardiac emergencies, Prostate examination, ENT examination, First Trimester Pregnancy Ultrasound

-As of 2019, I developed and implemented primer courses for continuous medical education of community physicians and nurses working in hospitals sponsored by

UNHCR. These courses targeted specific needs and gaps identified during training similar cohorts in Balamand Medical Simulation Center for BLS and ACLS. These courses serve also as a pre-requisite for ACLS and PALS in order to optimize learning outcomes. They include: EKG from A to Z, Respiratory Management Course and Pharmacology of Cardiac Emergencies

2- Curricular development:

Implementation of sequential changes in the Med II curriculum as of 2012 as outlined below:

• In 2012, changes started with the modification of the pre- clerkship curriculum from ‘didactic’ to a hybrid of didactic and problem-based learning curriculum.

• In 2014-2015, integration of a clinical clerkship rotation all through Med II academic year.

• In 2017-2018, implementation of clinical simulation for Med II students.

• In 2018-2019, integration of clinical simulation courses into the clinical skills II module.

• Writing all the syllabi for pre-clinical medicine 2 courses.

This curriculum is the one currently adopted by University of Balamand Medical School.

3- Course Coordination:

Coordinating clinical pharmacology course and clinical skills rotation for pre-clinical Medicine II.

4- Assessment and Measurements:

-Implementation of National Board of Medical Examiners – NBME- in Med II in 2015 in order to match the hybrid nature of the revised curriculum in 2012 and to focus on developing clinical analytical reasoning skills in Med II students.

- Blue print generation and selection of examination questions for respective modules to be approved by the respective course coordinators.

- OSCE like oral examination for Med II students in their clinical skills rotation 5- Remote teaching skills:
