INTRODUCTION
The College of Dentistry at Imam Abdurahman bin Faisal University is a leader in dental education, clinical care, community service and research. It is the first dental education institution to be established in the Eastern Province and the third in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The University Dental Hospital follows patient centered and evidence-based practices with a foundation in preventive and community health services. Our strengths include outstanding faculty members, students, and staff, who are committed to advancement of knowledge and public service.
The facilities of the college of dentistry, which expands over two campuses are fully equipped with state of the art, educational, research and treatment capacities:
1. Alnawras Campus which holds classrooms, preclinical laboratories and teaching clinics.
2. Rakah Campus which includes the COD Admin Building, classrooms and pre-clinical and research laboratories, University Dental hospital and the newly constructed building, which will operate in 2024 with additional classrooms, computer labs, simulation and research labs and offices.
OUR HISTORY
HISTORY
• In 2001, The College of Dentistry (COD) Alnawras Campus was established under the patronage of King Faisal University. At that time, Alnawras campus had one building – 9 dental clinics, laboratories and classrooms.
• In 2005, Expansion of clinical facility in building 1 of Alnawars campus with a total of 50 clinics.
• In 2009, The Dammam branch of King Faisal University became University of Dammam. A second expansion of Alnawras campus, building 2, which included 60 additional clinics.
• In 2014, The College of Dentistry administration building and teaching facility in the Rakah IAU Campus was completed and expanded to include the preclinical laboratories, research labs and faculty offices.
• In 2015, The Dental hospital in the Rakah IAU campus was inaugurated with 240 dental clinics, laboratories and classrooms.
• In 2016, the University name changed to Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University (IAU) during the visit of King Salman bin Abdulaziz to the Eastern province.

RAKAH CAMPUS
1.The Dental Administration Building and the University Dental Hospital
are located in the Rakah – Rakah IAU Campus. The two buildings are
linked through an overhead bridge, joining the administration and
clinical section.

There are two main buildings that accommodate the teaching and learning facilities of the college of dentistry in Rakah Campus in addition to a newly constructed building which will operate in 2024.
The administration building at Rakah campus includes teaching facility and research laboratories accessible to all students and faculty.

All classrooms are equipped with desktops, projectors, podiums, and smart boards in addition to regular white boards.
The auditorium has an occupancy capacity of 280+ and is equipped with a podium in addition to the projector and a complete audiovisual system.

The laboratories at the college of dentistry are divided into three main categories as follows:

Preclinical courses are taught in the specialized teaching laboratories to prepare the students for the clinical courses. Dental students are introduced to all aspects of dentistry by performing procedures on simulation mannequins before starting their clinics.
The Multipurpose Lab and the CAD/CAM Lab feature the latest technologies available to produce consistent and quality dental prosthetics partial and full dentures, dental crowns and dental bridges; for the patients being treated by students, residents and faculty members.

The purpose of the production laboratory is to
provide laboratory support to students and interns to fabricate dental prostheses and closely supervise the students in their fixed and removable case
procedures. The students can pour the impressions, trim the dental casts, and fabricate prosthodontic cases.
The ceramic Laboratories are used to fabricate all- ceramic tooth- and implants- supported prostheses and apply ceramic for porcelain fused to metal restorations.

The laboratory where CAD-CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) technologies are used to plan, design, and fabricate indirect dental restorations which include crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays, fixed partial dentures, and dental implant restoration. The laboratory serves the demands of patients of specialty clinics, postgraduate students, 5th and 6th years students, interns, and researchers.
The laboratory is equipped with 3D printers and 3D computer-guided software. The printers are capable of producing models, maxillary and mandible jaws replicas for surgery purposes, denture bases, custom trays, removable partial denture frameworks, provisional restorations, castable parts and copings, orthodontic splints, surgical guides, orthognathic surgical splints, and specimens for research. The lab serves the demands of patients of specialty clinics, postgraduate students, 5th and 6th years students, interns, and researchers.

The college supports various areas of scientific research to enhance the oral health and quality of life of the community. The college is committed in providing a productive research facility for its faculty and students. Currently there are three specialized research laboratories as follows.
Micro Computerized Tomography Laboratory (Micro CT)
The college has a laboratory containing Sky Scan Micro-CT (1172), which is a high- resolution CT scanner. located in the Rakah campus, administrative building, 2nd floor, it produces images with up to 8000x8000 pixels in every slice and down to 0.7 µm isotropic detail detectability. Cross section images are generated in a wide range of formats.
Cell and molecular biology Research Laboratory
located in the Rakah campus, administrative building, ground floor. This lab has light microscopes and other advanced equipment for studying oral tissues.
Oral Histology Research Laboratory
located AlNawras campus, building 2, 3rd floor. This lab provides oral pathology service for clinical and research purposes. The laboratory is equipped with light microscopes to examine specimens of various oral tissues, machines for staining tissue samples, and for the analysis of cancerous and immunologically diseased tissue.
Biomaterial Research Laboratory
located in Rakah campus, administrative building, 2nd floor, this laboratory, materials that are commonly used in the field of dentistry are tested for their tensile and comprehensive strength and their physical and flexural characteristics.
Microbiology Research laboratory
located in Rakah campus, administrative building, 2nd floor. This lab studies oral disease related microbiology research. It has microscopes, anaerobic chambers, and other equipment.

Special Care Dentistry Clinics
The Dental Hospital has 4 dedicated clinics for patients with complex medical issues especially Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN). The COD Dental Clinics offer a welcoming environment, and the dedicated team of professionals provide comprehensive oral health care services for individuals with intellectual, developmental and/or physical disabilities. Following the prescribed guidelines, the team offers dental care in outpatient clinics, under nitrous oxide or refer to general anesthesia.
Operation Rooms
The dental hospital has two Operation theatres (OR), which are specially designed theatre abiding negative pressure and sterilization protocol. In addition, we have comfortable post-anesthesia care units and a caring dedicated team of professionals.
Business Center Clinics
Clinical service at the Business Center at IAU Dental Hospital is offered by a team of consultants in all areas of oral and dental medicine, including cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, prosthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and maxillofacial surgery.
The Business centers operates from 4 PM - 10 PM Sunday to Thursday and from 10 AM - 2 PM on Saturdays.

The Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) library system is largely centralized and run by the Deanship of Library Affairs. In the Rakah Campus of IAU, the Central Library was opened for students in May 2014, as modern, hi- tech, purpose-built three-story building. It serves all faculty and students of IAU in addition to local public community. This library currently holds 54,428. Of printed items, 386 databases covering, 69164 e-journal, plus 228 subscribed printed journals and 395,010 e-books. Back issues of printed journals are preserved for research and consultation. The library has facility of computer labs and video conferencing rooms the seating capacity of computer labs is 53 on the 1st floor and 103 on the 2nd floor and 1 video conferencing room on the 2nd floor.
The library has facility of scanning, photocopy, and printing. It also has seating areas for readers as well as relaxing seating capacity.
Apart from central libraries, College of Dentistry has its own libraries in Dental Administrative building I and in Alnawras Campus. The Dental Administrative Building Campus library is situated at the 2nd floor and Alnawras library COD libraries is on the third floor of Building 2 of the college. They are open to students and staff from 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays. The college libraries have 2350 textbooks, 2490 journals and 5071 reference materials.

The Computer Lab at the College of Dentistry is located at AlNawars campus with a capacity of 30 seats. The computer laboratory for students does not only enhance students computer skills, but is also a powerful tool for teaching, learning, examinations and doing assignments. The computer laboratory also enhance self-learning through internet access to journals and periodicals.
The College of Dentistry has an in-house Information Technology engineers and technician to provide support to all users.
E-LEARNING CENTER
The E-learning center equipped to provide distance training through cutting-edge electronic technologies. The innovative interactive system allows the participants to communicate with the provider during the distance training program.
The E-learning center facility can be utilized to access variety of educational and training programs, Including:
- College and hospital orientations
- CE workshops, including live demonstrations of clinical procedures and OR surgeries.
- Diagnostic and treatment planning facilities (such as orthodontics, radiographic, and smile analysis)
- The center also includes computer library available for the faculty, students and staff.
The Deanship of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and E- Learning Deanship in Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University provide several E- services for faculty and students such as: Student Information System, Admission portal, E-Learning Management system, helpdesk, Wi-Fi service which is available for all IAU students, employees, and guests, along with free Office 365.
The E-services also include Digital Library with an immense database of books, journals, and audio-visual resources, this is in addition to research portal Converis system for providing details on researchers, research publications, automated approval of research projects and ethical reviews at the University.
Over the past years, the college of Dentistry has utilized the E-Learning services to deliver best practice pedological approaches and dynamic teaching and learning experience including:
1. Modern Software systems such as: Blackboard Learning System with variety of learning and assessment tools, Electronic Exams Analysis, Online meeting, workshops via Zoom and WebEx services

The College of Dentistry at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University has its own sports facility including multipurpose court for football, tennis, and basketball, as well as a swimming pool. These facilities are available for students to engage in extra-curricular activities during non-academic hours.
Student clubs are responsible for such activities, arrange for competitions between students competing in different sporting events at both the College and university levels.
