achievements after his 10-year tenure as Dean. Dr. Jehan AlHumaid, Associate Professor, PDS and Chairperson, DED was appointed as the Dean of the College of Dentistry after serving as Vice Dean for Female Student Affairs.

Dr. Abdulaziz AlAmri, Assistant Professor,PDS spoke at the Saudi Bahraini Dental Symposium at Le Meridien Hotel AlKhobar. The title of his lecture was “Is It Time to Switched to Clear Aligners?”
Dr. Hassan AlZamil, Resident at the Dental Hospital, finished his Masters Degree in Oral and Dental Sciences and a fellowship in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Rochester, Eastman Institute of Oral Health. Before his return he was awarded the “Handelman Award” for his excellence in leadership, academics and high standard of ethics at the same university.
SECOND YEAR STUDENTS ORIENTATION
The VDAA conducted an Orientation for the incoming 2nd Year Students. Dr. Muhanad AlHareky welcomed the students and discussed the rules and regulations of the College. Mr. Nasser AlKaabi, COD Registrar discussed the step by step procedure of student registration. Muath AlRuwaili and Manea AlAbbas shared their experience in volunteering in community service in the city of Kathmandu, Nepal. Shahad AlAmmar shared her thoughts regarding preparation and passing the NBDE Part 1 and 2. Norah AlQahtani shared her experience as Hajj volunteer serving the pilgrims and also talked about the mechanism of admission in the Saudi Academy of Health Volunteers and how they are being trained in the field and lastly, Haneen AlZayer shared her experience in the College’s basketball team. In conclusion Dr. Suliman Shahin gave a welcome message and a brief introduction about quality assurance in the college. The orientation was organized by the VDAA, VDFSA and with the help of the Thanaya Club.
FACULTY ORIENTATION 2019
The Academic Year 2019 - 2020 started off with a faculty orientation and updates from the Dean, VDAA, VDQ&D, Supervisor General of VDQ&D and representative from the DQAA regarding some changes this academic year and NCAAA -SAQF. The Dean thanked all the faculty for their efforts during the last academic year and also gave a brief review of the College’s achievements.
VD PG & SR MEETING WITH FACULTY
A representative from the office of the Vice President for Post Graduate Studies And Scientific Research met with the COD faculty to update them on the latest guidelines regarding academic promotions and all the available services of the vice deanship as well as the Scientific Council. The meeting was organized by the COD - VD PG&SR.

Dr. Maram AlGhamdi, Assistant Professor,SDS passed the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE) in Prosthodontics which was administered by The Royal College of Dentists of Canada and required by many international dental regulatory authorities for licensure as a specialist.

Dr. Othman Abdullah AlKhateeb, a College of Dentistry Alumni and scholar, was granted a “Handelman Award”
by the Eastman Institute of Oral Health to recognize a graduating resident in the Advance Education in General Dentistry program who has demonstrated leadership skills, clinical and academic excellence and high standards of ethics.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
LECTURE LUNCH AND LEARN
The CE&FD Unit conducted a faculty development workshop in collaboration with the Center for Quality of Assessment and Examinations. Dr.
Mohamed AlEraky, Assistant Professor of Medical Education and Director of Academic Initiatives speaks about “Rubrics Development”. The workshop was attended by 36 faculties from different academic departments.
A Lunch and Learn activity was organized by the CE&FD Unit in collaboration with the Comate Company Ltd. The title of the lecture was “Biologically oriented endodontics: from minimally invasive instrumentation to 3D biocompatible obturation”.
The guest speaker was Dr. Guillaume Jouanny, an international lecturer and has lectured in more than 30 countries and is a part time faculty at University of Paris René Descartes, France. The lecture was attended by 27 faculties, endo specialties and interns.
STUDENTS AND INTERN PASS THE NBDE
Female students Leenah Al Sulaimi, Fatimah Abushal and Intern Reham AlFaraj passed the NBDE Part 1 while Intern Shahad AlAmmar passed the NBDE Part 2 at the American Dental Association (ADA). The college is really proud of their achievements.
HEROES OF HEALTH AWARD FOR STUDENT
His excellency, the Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq AlRabiah honored 6th Year student Nora AlQahtani as the Heroes of Health for the Hajj 1440, for her efforts in the program of the Ministry of Health and for volunteering to serve the pilgrims.

In cooperation with the Saudi Academy of Health Volunteering, the 6th male and female students, Mohammad AlAsmari, Rakan AlAqeel, Norah AlQahtani, Hind AlBelali, Hadeel Labli, Nusseibeh Moghrabi and Fatima AlMuhsin served as volunteers in the Hajj 1440 pilgrims.

The COD blooms in pink in solidarity with the October Pink Campaign known as two-dimensional awareness and education on breast cancer. The activity was organized in collaboration with the Thanaya Club.

COMPETITION
The intern Sundus AlArifi won 2nd place in the category best junior clinical poster award with a poster titled “Effect of Steam Heat Sterilization on the Accuracy of 3D Printed Surgical Guides” held at the 5th King Abdulaziz University International Conference in Jeddah. DENTAL HOSPITAL VISITED BY US CONSUL GENERAL
The Dental Hospital was honored with the visit of US Consul General Rachna Sachdeva Korhonen. The Dean and VDCA introduced her the educational, specialized facilities, clinics, operating rooms, clinics for children with special needs and autism, in addition to the achievements of the college and the hospital’s outreach to the people of the region.

INTRODUCTORY MEETING WITH VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY
An introductory meeting with the Vice President for Studies, Development & Community Service, Dr.
Abdullah AlQadi, was held at the IAU Auditorium. The meeting aimed at reviewing the development programs offered by the VP SD & CS office and cooperation in joint programs with the college.
COD SCHOLARS PRESENT SCIENTIFIC POSTERS IN MARYLAND, USA
Dr. Abdulrahman Balhaddad, RDS and Dr. Maria Ibrahim, PDS, both college scholars, presented their Scientific Posters at the Academy of Dental Materials meeting held at the University of Maryland, USA.
COD NEW FACULTY MEMBERS
The college welcomes two new faculty members; Dr.
Afsheen Tabassum, who recently joined as an Assistant Professor in the the Department of Preventive Dental Sciences, Division of Periodontology. and Dr. Omar Mukhtar Omar, who recently joined as an Associate Professor in the Vice Deanship for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research as a Researcher.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT LECTURE
The CE&FD Unit conducted a faculty development workshop in collaboration with the Deanship for Academic Development. The lecture was given by Dr. Marzoq Bataeineh, an Assistant Professor at the Deanship of Academic Development. His current research interests focus primarily on teaching and learning in higher and adult education context. The lecture titled “Neuroscience of learning Implications for teaching practice”
discussed how the interaction of cells and neural circuits leads to higher level activities such as cognition and behavior and described the integration of neurological and behavioral system.
CONTINUING DENTAL EDUCATION WORKSHOP
The CE&FD Unit conducted a continuing education workshop given by Dr. Rasha AlSheikh and Dr. Khalid AlMulhim, Assistant Professors, RDS in collaboration with Bashir Shakib and Ivoclar Vivadent titled “Mastering Direct Anterior & Posterior Composite Restorations”. It is a combination of lecture and hands-on workshop focused on providing the step-by-step procedures of the most recent techniques used in conservative restorations of anterior and posterior. The workshop was attended by 30 participants.
