Praise be to Almighty Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessing be on His messenger Muhammad, Last of Prophets.
A series of International Conferences on Islamic Economics was initiated by the King Abdulaziz University by holding the first Conference at Makkah al-Mukarramah in 1976. The 11th conference in this series was held at Kuala Lumpur during 11-13 Oct. 2016. Holding of this conference marked the passage of forty years since the First Conference heralded the development of a new paradigm which came to be known as “Islamic economics”. The Journal of King Abdulaziz University-Islamic Economics (JKAU-IE) decided to celebrate this occasion by publishing a special issue based on some selected papers of this conference. As we present this issue to the readers, I must fulfill my obligation to thank many people who made publication of this Issue possible. First and foremost I am obliged to Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Obaid AI-Youbi, the President of King Abdulaziz University for giving gracious support to the Journal of King Abdulaziz University-Islamic Economics for this purpose.
I wish to express my sincere and deep gratitude to Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, the Vice President of the University for Projects for his kind approval in his capacity of being in charge of the Vice Presidency for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research to publish a special issue of the Journal. Prof. Yusuf Abdulaziz El-Turki, Former Dean of Scientific Research, now Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research also deserves my sincere thanks for extending generous support for this special issue.
I am also grateful to Dr. Abdullah Qurban Turkistani, Dean Islamic Economics Institute who has been a constant source of inspiration as well as provides unwavering support to the journal.
Without his keen interest and constant encouragement our efforts would not have borne fruit.
I owe a debt of gratitude to our two guest editors Prof. Mohamed Aslam Bin Mohamed Haneef of International Islamic University Malaysia and Dr. Salman Syed Ali of Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank Group for their active follow up with authors and expert editing of the papers.
Prof. Munawar Iqbal deserves special thanks for making available to us his support and wise counsel in selection of papers and preparation of this special issue. He has kindly written an enlightening introductory article in the light of his vast experience of the series of International Islamic Economics Conferences. He has also prepared a cumulative index for the contents of the JKAU-IE since its inceptions in a way that I hope our readers and other researchers will find very useful.
I would also like to gratefully acknowledge the cooperation and assistance received from Yahya Malik and Obaidullah Abdulghani, both from the Islamic Economics Institute, King Abdulaziz University, for going through several drafts and making the Issue ready for uploading on time.
Last but not the least, I am thankful to Dr. Khalid Al-Youbi, Director of Scientific Publishing Centre, KAU, for getting this Journal printed in a very short time.
