RECOMMENDATIONS

At the center of the pyramid is optimizing building performance with tools such as responsive shading and maximizing the use of natural light and ventilation. If the temperature of the cooling device is reset and the humidity level is optimized, energy consumption can be reduced.

SUSTAINABLE HOTEL DESIGN

INTRODUCTION

Similarly, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cap-and-trade system for CO2 emissions for power plants and is being implemented in nine member states in the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative , n.d.). One of the first steps in this process is to check current energy consumption and related emissions.

The tool requires registration, but is free for all hoteliers (and non-hoteliers) and can be used in a wide variety of geographical conditions (see http://www.hes-unwto.org). To get a clear and reliable picture of a home's energy performance, one can apply the adage 'the more data, the better the output.' The choice of which instrument is based on multiple factors such as geographical location, complexity or flexibility of the instrument or desired support of a national hotel association.

FEATURES OF THE BUILDING

Furthermore, the material and structure of the building (steel-concrete, wood, solid construction, etc.) as a whole and especially the structure and insulation of walls, roofs, windows and doors must be taken into account since energy losses often occur. Finally, questions should be asked about window glazing, along with questions about lightning protection devices and sun shades.

ENERGY CONSERVATION IN HOTELS: A GREEN APPROACH

INTRODUCTION

Tourism is one of the main sources of earning foreign exchange for developing and least developed countries in the world (UNCTAD, 2010). Therefore, it is necessary to assess the reduction in energy consumption by the hotels and the effectiveness of the measures they apply.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION PATTERN AND GUIDELINES The energy consumed by the building sector is 2500 Mega tons of oil equiva-

Sensors can be deployed to turn off the lights and air conditioning of the unused spaces. Daylight controls can be used to dim the electric lighting in response to the intensity of the light outside.

HOTEL DESIGN

ITC Grand Chola in Chennai (India), which opened in September 2012, is the largest LEED Platinum-certified hotel (1.5 million square meters) in the world. Welcomenviron.' Currently all of the group's luxury hotels are rated LEED platinum making it one of the greenest hotel chains in the world.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

Investments in green initiatives take place in areas that traditionally do not belong to the core competence of the hotels (Kasim, 2004). The cost of the project was $125 per room or 22 cents per square foot of the hotel area.

CHALLENGES

Thus, the researchers concluded that French customers had a long way to go before being considered "green consumers". Indian consumers are aware of the eco-friendly practices followed by hotels and patronize hotels by adopting green practices without compromising on service quality (Manaktola and Jauhari, 2007). This is why there is a lack of standards in the industry to assess the energy efficiency of hotels (Warnken et al., 2005).

STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT

It also promotes local industry leading to job creation and increased property goodwill in the area. The attitude of the hotel owner or manager affects sustainability initiatives in the hotel.

LARGE HOTEL CHAINS VERSUS SMALL OPERATORS

Hilton Worldwide's performance in 2010 showed savings of 6.6% and 3.8% in energy and water use, respectively. There should be sufficient but not excessive lighting in the corridors, stairs and exterior parts of the hotel to make the guest feel safe.

SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY: SOME

INTRODUCTION

Although major technological trends have started playing key roles in the hospitality industry from 'application environment and front office systems'. These suppliers are employed by the hotel industry with the aim of installing new and/or upgrading the existing technological expertise in front office, back office, administration, operations, security (guests and data), services (F&B, laundry), etc.

CLOUD BASED SOLUTIONS OR CLOUD COMPUTING The hospitality industry generates massive data and specialized information

  • BENEFITS OF CLOUD BASED TECHNOLOGY FOR HOTELS
  • APPLICATIONS OF CLOUD COMPUTING IN HOTEL INDUSTRY

In addition to the Internet, GDSs can be further strengthened by the emergence of cloud-based platforms viz. Another example of cloud-based computing in the hospitality industry is Microsoft AZURE, a cloud-based development platform currently in use.

MOBILE/HAND HELD COMPUTING DEVICES

Based on the issues raised in the energy report, 'GREEN ENGAGE' offers green solutions covering every aspect of the hotel life cycle, ranging from picking up suitable sites (for new hotels) to proposing pro-environmental cleaning materials for the hotels. Mobile text messaging technology can contribute to the calmness of public areas and limit communication to only relevant information.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Mobile platforms can be instrumental in increasing interactivity and building a stronger brand-to-customer connection, as data collected on them can be used for surveys or become part of a hotel's social media exercise. It is part of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, which consists of resorts, residences and hotels.

ANALYTICS

Analytics also uses social media information to understand (a) how their hotels and brands are doing in real time, and (b) to comprehensively analyze guests. It is suggested that analysts treat social media chatter as unstructured comments from different social groups.

CUSTOMIZED/PERSONALIZED SYSTEMS FOR THE GUESTS Customers and hotels are aware of the impact of personalized services on the

When the guest-property information becomes two-way, it increases the ability of the guests to interact with the property in the way they desire and thus increases the personalization of the services. Second, it enables the property to analyze the before and after stages of the guest-centric loop to encourage guest engagement and improve guest experience.

SYSTEM AND PROCESS INTEGRATION IN HOTELS

The guests can also use a real photo of the room's interior on the iPad to gain precise control over the tones, light and media content in the room or the guest can use the 'home' button to access various functions. such as artificial lighting, opening and closing. closing the shutters, etc. In addition, staff are relieved of paperwork at check-in and cash handling is now focused on guest care, especially in the bar and public areas, inviting them to feel at home.

TECHNOLOGY MUST ACCOUNT FOR A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE (NETWORKS AND SCALABILITY IN GLOBAL

Achieving relevance is at the heart of every hotel's operation, which essentially implies the development of capabilities to act in a precise and nuanced manner on the information gathered in the context of the target guest. Future technologies using Agile Service Networks on cloud hope to solve the issue of scalability and integration in hotel technologies and thus ensure a global perspective in the operations.

ECO-INNOVATION IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

  • INCREMENTAL CHANGES
  • RADICAL CHANGES

According to Steve Zanella, president and COO of MGM Grand Detroit, this would reduce the garage's annual energy consumption by 80%. Low-emission water-based paints have been used on the walls of the new eco-friendly building.

CONSTRAINTS EXPERIENCED BY THE HOTELS IN ADOPTING AND ADAPTING NEW TECHNOLOGIES

  • INTERNAL BARRIERS
  • BARRIERS TO IT/EMS ADOPTION AND ADAPTION In the case of IT adoption, although many hotel managers admitted that IT
  • OPERATIONAL BARRIERS
  • FINANCIAL BARRIERS
  • HUMAN RESOURCES BARRIERS

In addition, all existing lights in the building were replaced with state-of-the-art energy-efficient, LG3-compliant lighting to create optimal working conditions. We pay too little attention to upgrading the technological skills of employees in the workplace.

EXTERNAL BARRIERS

  • MARKET FORCES
  • LAW, POLICIES AND STANDARDS
  • FINANCIAL FACTORS
  • CUSTOMER BARRIER
  • TECHNOLOGY
  • CONSTRUCTION CHALLENGES AND BARRIERS

Ad-hoc Industry Advisory Group of the Energy Efficient Buildings PPP (2013) in its draft proposal identified the following challenges and obstacles that stand in the way of building an energy efficient building. The draft report also highlights several constraints that the building and construction industry is facing due to the ongoing economic and financial crisis in the world, viz.

ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN TECHNOLOGY ASSIMILATION

Also create a separate section in the technology department that deals exclusively with the technological developments in the hospitality industry. The main focus of this section will be to influence and guide companies in the hospitality sector to direct their policies, both at national and international level, towards the development and production of products and processes that improve environmental sustainability and industrial competitiveness.

This is also in line with ISO 140001, which requires hotel accommodations to train suppliers in production, procurement and disposal processes. Garbage and other hotel waste is sent to government-certified vendors who are trained and equipped to handle and dispose of the waste in the most environmentally sound manner.

PACKAGING

Sustainable processes and efforts clearly drive sales and have a positive impact on the bottom line as well. The Global Exchange Reality Tours are an excellent example of sustainable marketing through the element of packaging, as the organization uses sustainable practices in internal processes and in the external environment, by including only those partners who also work on sustainability.

PROGRAMMING

Paramilitary forces as well as Indian defense personnel were engaged in the rescue mission. This was indicative of unauthorized construction activities in the region along with excess tourism (more than the carrying capacity of the region).
