, . •, ^ Selection and breeding to improve egg production for CI Co duck line
Co is a local duck breed closed symbiotically to rain-fed nee. It has been reduced the numbers because fanners aimed to high meat production exotic ducks recently. Co ducks have an aptitude for sca\enging on water bodies and fields and foraging for two third their daily need. They are prolific with about 200 eggs per female in 52 weeks laying. Although it is polygamous of one male and 9-10 females, the fertility reaches over 90 %. Co ducks are assessed the second only to Khaki Campbell and Indian Runner as a good laying breed. Now a question is that: How to help poor farmers to get more income? Why don't we improve duck productivity by local genetic resources, while Co ducks are called "Ducks of rain-fed rice" with a huge reproduction potential. Methods of family selection and small population inbreeding were applied by one to seven ratio breeding scheme for Co ducks in DBRC.lt was shown that the egg production improved 17.6 eggs per female higher than before selection; and 21.3 egg per female higher than control group. Other characteristics such as body weight, egg weight, egg quality, fertility, hatchability and also feed conversion was kept stable.

Vit Cd cd kha nang tu kiem dii 2/3 nhu cau thii:e an hang ngay neu dupe chan tha; nang suat trirng khdng dudi 200 trirng/mai/52 tudn de. Mac dii ty Id ghep trdng mai it hon nhieu cac gidng vit khac (1/9 - 1/10), ty le phoi luon dat trdn 90%. Vit Cd dupe danh gia la gid'ng mdn de chi sau vit Khaki Campbell va Indian Runner.
