The chairman replied that he was not sure whether it was the committee's responsibility, and further suggested the involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The chairman stated that minor changes had to be made to the original plan. Sir. Cooper stated that Stanley's directorate should prepare a report and he would come to the chairman and the committee would provide information.
Mr Cooper suggested that the Speaker take stock of the ministers' speeches and see if it could be added. Ms. Jacobs suggested that the Chair issue a press release and forward it to the Communications department. The chairman replied that he was not sure of the number and age, but the focus was on finishing the facility.
The Chairman agreed and mentioned that they would prepare the document together with Mrs Jacobs. The chairman stated that the EIE directorate reviewed all the SANAP 3s and were satisfied.
INTRODUCTION
The construction of the new cabin was successfully carried out without harming the vegetation and animals in the vicinity. The president replied that the handover would be done towards the end of the aid. Once the takeover begins, some labs are expected to operate at the new base.
Cooper further suggested that there should be a workshop for the implementation of the EMP. A copy of the completed form will be attached to the sailing instructions for the voyage. Both species have limited distribution (one to base a.11.d the other to the east coast of the island).
Under this project an automatic weather station (A WS) will be erected near the Swartkops hut on the western side of the island. This will contribute to the assessment of the survival of the species on Prince Edward Island.
ACTIVtTIES IN CAPE TOWN
INSPECTIONS
- CHC Helicopters premises
- East Pier Quay Store (DEAT)
Courtesy of Capt D Hilland: Project Manager (CHC) and assisted by Mr. M van der Hoven: Assistant Project Manager (CHC) hangar and offices were inspected and found to be very clean and in good order. Two helicopters scheduled to be used at Marion Island were not in the hangar for inspection and were inspected on board. The East Pier store was found to be in the same condition as the last inspection due to the accumulation of dust from the floor.
Several Tomcat rodent stations were placed in the warehouse and along the main entrances. The clothing store was found to be clean, but the clothes were scattered all over the place, which is not recommended.
ACTIVITIES ABOARD
INSPECTIONS ON BOARD
It is again recommended that another electronic zapper be installed in the fresh produce store and an additional one in the heli hangar (opposite the fuel station). One dead mollusc was found in the hangar by the CHC crew member and was given to the PEO for records. During the cruise, ad hoc inspections were carried out, concentrating on the walkways and heli-hangar, and no disposal of inorganic waste, including cigarette butts, was found.
Blinds in the saloon and cabins were regularly checked in the evening after 19:00 and no night strikes were observed or reported. The recommendation from a previous report (August 2007 PEO Marion Island Construction Report) that shades be installed in the passenger lounge to prevent light being emitted from the lounge to the outside was not implemented. With the permission of Capt. A Stroebel and the assistance of Mr. M van der Hovn, I examined the interior of both helicopters and the skids/wheels and found no animal or plant propagules.
Both helicopters were treated for general pest control on October 18, 2007 in the hangar of the MV SA Agu/has. The chemicals used were Maxforce Gel/LG4911/5000 mg/kg boric acid/desiccant (fumigation certificate available on request). Upon arrival at Marion Island on October 26, 2007, the helicopter's landing skids and wheels were washed with high-pressure water to flush out any plant and animal propagules and were inspected before flying to base.
BOOT-WASHING CEREMONY
All passengers have been asked to notify PEO if they have found or seen plant and animal propagators (cockroaches, moths, flies, mice, etc.) in their personal equipment and materials such as books, videos, camera bags, etc.
ACTIVITIES ON MARION ISLAND
CONSTRUCTION OF NEW BASE
- Inspection of construction site
- Trampling of vegetation
- Introduction of alien species
- Disturbance of Fauna and Flora
SCIENTIFIC PROJECTS
INSPECTION AND INSTALLATION OF FIELD SCIENTIFIC HUTS
The old cabin had to be taken apart due to its condition before it could be transported to the ship. The site was left clean and tidy after the new hut was installed, with no waste material lying around. No water contamination was observed in the stream adjacent to the cabin, and the pilot of the aircraft followed the recommended routes to avoid disturbing the birds when transporting the cabin from the ship to the site.
This is one of the vulnerable locations because of the colonies of albatross (sooty and gray headed) that breed in this location. The birds showed no irritation from aircraft noise and staff working at the site. The old hut was dismantled before being transported to the ship due to its condition and all waste material was put into the container.
All waste material was collected and there was no litter or debris on site. No disturbance of vegetation was observed and the site was left clean without debris.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Environmental Management Plan and way forward (Mr H Valentine) 2.5 Extension of Prince Edward Islands Special Nature Reserve Status. He suggested that the unveiling of the plaque could be part of the commissioning of the new base. He mentioned that the spaces where the platforms had to be monitored for the rehabilitation of the terrain.
Most of the members of this team will spend most of their time in the field. Permit to collect droppings of the non-native invasive mouse (Mus muscu/us domesticus) from around the island. This work is part of a survey of non-native plants commissioned by the Prince Edward Islands Board of Trustees.
Copies of all relevant permits must be forwarded to the Research Development Department prior to the commencement of the project.). An above-ground wind meter is attached to the structure of the hut (60 mm pipe, fixed with brackets). We require exclusive use of the Mammal Laboratory during the pick-up [4 pick-up staff, 2 new and 2 old team members= 8 people].
Two platform terminal (PIT) transmitters will be placed in two breeding birds (0.01 % of the number of breeding birds). Site visit to conduct final status inspection of new science shed areas).
