2. In view of item XIII on the proposed agenda for the tirst meeting of the International Whaling Commission - vide the annexure to Commonwealth Relations O ffice Despatch No. 12 of the 3rd February, 1949, a copy or which was

9/71, bringing to my attention tho wi thdra·:1al of the Government of' the United Sta teo of America from tho 1.\greement for the Regulation of Whaling of' 1937

pursuant to Article 21 of that Agreement and from the Protocol for the Regulation of Whaling of 1938, and your Noto of 14th Feb1'uary No. UE 697 /9/71, informing me that His Majesty's Government in the United

Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have Vii thdrawn from the International Agreement for the Regulation of ~baling signed in London 8th June, 1937 as am::inded by the Protocol of 1938 pursuant to Article 21 of the said hgreemcnt and that in accordance with

terms of Article 21 the Agreement will cease to be in force with respect to His !i!ajesty' s Government after the 30th June 1949.

2. I am instructed to give notice of the withdrawal of the Icelandic Governioont f'rom tho International Agreement for the Regulation of Whaling signed in

London 8th June, 1937 as amended by the Protocol of the 24th June 1938 pursuant to nrticle 21 of the said Agreement, and that in accorda nee with the torms of Article 21 the Agreement will cease to be in forcu with respect to the Icelandic Government after 30th June, 1949.

The Ambassador of Chile presents his compliments to His Excellency the Secretary of State and has the honor, with reference to his cir- cular note of December 8, 1948, to inform him that the Government of Chile finds acceptable the ratifi- cation by the Government of Denmark of the Interna-

tional Convention for the Regulation of Whaling signed at Washington, D.C. under date of Decemb er 2, 1946, with the reservation that factory ships, operat-

1ng under the jurisdiction of the Danish government, and moving entirely within Danish territorial waters,

including the territorial waters of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, sh~ll be subject to the regulations o!

the convention governing the operation of land stations.

The Canadian Ambassador presents his compliments to the Secretary of State and has the honour to refer to his note rlated December 8, 1948, enquiring whether the reservation proposed by the Danish Government with respect to the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling is

acceptable to the Canadian Government.

The Canadian Ambassador has been directed to inform the Secretary of State that the Canadian Government is prepared to accept the ratification of the above named Convention by Denmark with the

reservation that factory ships, operating under the jurisd1ction of the Danish Government, and moving entirely within Danish territorial waters,

including the territorial waters of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, shall be subject to the

regulations of the convention governing the operation of land stations .
