Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A boy is re- covering after two security guards severely assaulted him last week in a case of jungle justice.
The two security guards, a 41-year-old woman and a man (42), were expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court last week on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and indecent assault.
The incident on Tuesday April 19 in Tigane shocked the Provin- cial Police Commissioner, Lt-Genl Sello Kwena. He instructed that the matter be thoroughly inves-
tigated to ensure that justice is served
According to Brig Sabata Mok- gwabone, police spokesperson, it was alleged that the woman, gave the 16-year-old boy a R50 note to buy her a cold drink. However, the boy neither bought the cold drink nor gave the money back to the woman.
“She searched for the boy and eventually found and took him to the local clinic where she is work- ing. With assistance of her col- league, they chained the boy to a pole with hand cuffs, undressed
and assaulted him with a belt.
During the incident, a video was captured with a cell phone camera and later circulated on various social media platforms. In the video, the voice believed to be of the male suspect could be heard hurling insults at the boy and in- citing the woman to assault the victim even harder. The severely assaulted boy was later taken by a Good Samaritan to another clinic for medical treatment as the one where the incident took place was closed,” Brig Mokgwabone said.
The investigation continues.

Men’s forum to uplift
community
“Through dialogue, they realized that most men are in debt due to alcohol, violence is being committed when peo- ple are under the influence, and most women are being violated by men when they are also under the influence. Men are committing suicide because they are bottling up issues and have nowhere else to go. Of course, some are consu- ming alcohol for pure entertainment.
“Through Bambanani, they support the initiative which was introduced by Justice and Peace of leveraging the taverns as progressive sites for change.
They are working hard to transforming their tavern to become a safe public so- cial space and want to see other taverns to be used for socio-tainment thereby transforming a culture of violence and other atrocities which are attached with taverns,” says the secretary, Joe Mashilo.
On May 2 at 10:00, Bambanani and In-the-Mix tavern will bring together men and women over 18 years to reflect on the challenges facing the workers at home, workplace and in the community at large. In this event, different guest speakers from trade unions, govern- ment, civil society organizations and business will address all present about depression, stress, gender-based vio- lence/femicide, debt, alcohol addiction, violence, employment dismissals, occu- pational health and injuries.
They extend an invitation to other taverns in Jouberton and community at large to come and celebrate with them and learn the model of transforming the taverns and its patrons.
Members of Bambanani will start with a walk in Ext 24 to one of the poorest households which members will assist in July on Mandela Day.
On May 1 at 12:00, they we will have a soccer match with Bambanani vs Lategan.

Lentswe, Alabama - Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates football player, Gert Schalkwyk is confident that assistant coaches, Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard will bring back Chiefs’s winning culture at Naturena.
“Arthur knows the culture of Kaizer Chiefs, he knows how to play. As a player he knew how to win trophies as well. So, I think for me it is the best decision that
Chiefs has done for now,”
said Schalkwyk.
This comes after the Am- akhosi announced that after a series of meetings, the club and coach Stuart Baxter have come to a mutual agree- ment of an early termina- tion of his contract last week Thursday.
“In his second spell with Kaizer Chiefs, Baxter has led the team in 23 matches (excluding 3 league matches in December 2021).
He managed to win 9 matches, draw 6 and lost 8 of the games. The team managed to score 25 goals and concede 23 during that time.”
Schalkwyk says Zwane is the right choice. He conti- nued to describe Zwane as a
disciplined and inspirational former player.
“I think it was about time, because Chiefs wasn’t doing well. Maybe now when a new coach comes…he’ll come with good ideas and winning trophies, it’s been long now. Because I remember when I was playing, we made sure that every season we win one or two trophies,”
said Schalkwyk.
Schalkwyk is currently working as an as- sistant coach for Hungry Lions FC which is a team playing at Glad Africa - First Division.
Hungry Lions are currently at position 11.
He recently hosted a Gert Schalkwyk Easter Tournament that took place at Alabama sta- dium.
The 9th annual tournament invited 16 teams to participate in categories ranging from u/ 13, u/15,Seniors and Masters including ladies soccer teams. The main focus was on the u/13 and u/15 whereby he will be choosing two players to Kaizer Chiefs Development for assessment.
Despite the chilly and rainy weather, the support was stunning throughout the weekend. Alabama Gunners u/13 and Golden Palace u/15 won R5000 each.
“I am very impressed by the support that I received from local teams and nearby townships.
“In August 2022, I will organise another tourna- ment for ladies only,’’ he said.

MEC Arts, Culture Sports and Recreation, Galebekwe Tlhapi shows her support for the NW Flames.
Lentswe, Potchefstroom - The kick off to the Netball Friday launch series in North West got off to a scorching start in Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp last week Friday, with the provincial netball team, the NW Flames, leading the pro- ceedings on the field of play.
The events in the two cities marked the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District launch of the provincial events, with Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District taking the baton on Friday April 29. Ngaka Modiri Molema and Bojanala will follow at dates to be announced.
Netball Friday North West is part of the nation-wide support for the Proteas Netball side and popularizing the Net- ball World Cup that South Africa will host in Cape Town mid-2023. SA will be the first on the continent to host the international sporting spectacle.
To create visibility and top-of-mind awareness of the Netball World Cup, people around the country are en-
couraged to wear their Netball Friday t-shirts every Friday, till the end of the World Cup next year.
During the events in the Dr Kaunda District, the MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR), Gale- bekwe Tlhapi, and the President of Net- ball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane, distributed Netball Friday t-shirts to the crowds that attended the events.
The Netball Friday launch series is a partnership between ACSR, North West Netball and the North West Provincial Sports Confederation.
Last Friday’s event started in Pot- chefstroom, where 16 netball players were awarded their provincial colours.
The convoy then went to Ikageng Net- ball court in the nearby township where members of the NW Flames displayed their skills, to an appreciative crowd.
From Ikageng, the next stop was the Brazil sports grounds in Jouberton.
At both events, the crowds braved in-
termittent rains, and yet kept the spirit of netball alive.
During the launches, MEC Tlhapi committed her Department to suppor- ting initiatives that boost the North West Flames, netball in the Province
and the Netball World Cup.
Molokwane urged communities to rally behind the NW Flames and the Spar Proteas.
“However, we are mindful of the fact that the netball community (players and officials) should be the ones leading the way in showing support for the Proteas and the Netball World Cup,’’ she said.
One of the players who took part in the demonstration games during the Netball Friday launch, Neo Mbamba from Bojanala, said she was “excited by the Fridays initiative’’ and that the Netball Fridays should be celebrated throughout the Province.
“It’s the first of its kind for netball,’’
said the shooter. “This will definitely go a long way in growing the game not only in the Province but country-wide as well.’’
