Aim of investigation

The aim of this study is to explore the capabilities of women in urban and rural Walvis Bay, Namibia, to cope with the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The main focus will be on the lack of empowerment for the daily survival of urban and rural women in Walvis Bay, and the need for transformation.

Statement of the problem

Many urban and rural women in Walvis Bay are in crisis because of the AIDS pandemic. However, both urban and rural women have been confronted with HIV/AIDS, which inevitably causes destruction and death.

Motivation

One of the most dangerous problems is the tradition of allowing men to have more than one sexual partner. Urban women are in a better position than rural women because many of them are educated, have secure jobs and have a good health status thanks to the wide variety of healthy foods and vegetables they enjoy.

The method of research

Since the antiretroviral therapy is one way to care for people with HTV infection.

Introduction

The Namibian background

Geographical situation

It is described as having the shape of "a tall, top-heavy cooking pot with a handle" (Landis in Nambala: 8). Most of the country consists of a high plateau with an average elevation of 1,080 meters above sea level.

Demography

Politics

Economy

According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), agriculture provides employment to half of the Namibian workforce but contributes only 6.5% to total Namibian GDP (1998a: 117). About 58% of the total Namibian population is economically active and therefore part of the working population.

Education

Women have significantly lower rates of participation in the workplace than men and are more likely to be unemployed. For admission to university, students must pass 4 subjects at HIGCSE level.

Introduction

The Historical Background of Walvis Bay

After the reincorporation of Walvis Bay into Namibia in 1994, it experienced strong economic and population growth. However, following the reintegration of Walvis Bay, the fishing sector has recovered and population growth has increased (Interview No.4)”.

What is HIV/AIDS?

Education in WalvisBay and women who contract HIV/AIDS

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the number of condoms distributed free of charge grew rapidly over the years 1998 and 1999. fight against HIV/AIDS.

The rights of women in WalvisBay who have contracted HIV/AIDS

The government is concerned about the right of the HIV/AIDS person to be respected and protected. Although the culture demands that women have more children, this is very dangerous for the health status of the women in Walvis Bay.

Cultural issues and HIV/AIDS in Walvis Bay

Furthermore, in connection with urban women in Walvis Bay, there is debate and concern about reproductive rights, AIDS and the right to have children. In the context of this study, especially among the Topnaar men, the use of condoms is unacceptable.

Migration and HIV/AIDS in Walvis Bay i) Why do people migrate to Walvis Bay!

Lack of knowledge about safe sex behavior and prejudice make the women in Walvis Bay more vulnerable to HTV infection. Even more, the low-income status of some women in Walvis Bay contributes to their vulnerability.

Women's employment status and HIV/AIDS in Walvis Bay

The Port of Walvis Bay contributes to the economy as it is the largest port in Africa (Quayside Talk 2000:3). Walvis Bay provides employment and has also become a breeding ground for the deadly disease HIV/AIDS.

Conclusion

An interesting statistic according to the Walvis Bay Housing Demand and Affordability Study shows that the employment rate of these women is up to. The position of women in Walvis Bay can be understood in the traditional family context which silences them. In general, the women of Walvis Bay are disadvantaged because of their position in society.

Introduction

Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN)

In general, women's roles in ELCRN are prescribed to them by the dominant male hierarchy and/or traditions. They are often allowed to get involved with Sunday school instruction, cleaning the sick and raising funds for the church. Although women have been fully accepted and integrated into the work and life of the Church, all Church board members are male and dominate decision-making, while women play a ministerial role.

Biblical understanding and HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS was quite unknown in biblical times, but we do find passages in the Bible that reflect on the terrible disease as explained above. They become outsiders from family and friends in the assembly of people, but for God women are among those whom the Bible calls us to minister to. This makes it necessary for the Church (ELCRN) to become an important partner in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Theological reflection on HIV/AIDS

So during the HIV/AIDS crisis, we are all affected by the terrible disease. For the Christian community, the theology of hope is found in the link of the Judeo-Christian tradition, and that tradition of hope must be fulfilled in God's promise: God's coming Kingdom. God's grace is more than a promise: it must be experienced in the crisis of AIDS.

The moral perspectives of the Church (ELCRN)

Even for those afflicted with this deadly disease, God's grace is not removed from them. No premarital sex, people must wait for marriage, according to God's teaching. Our sexual nature is one of God's gifts (Genesis 1:28) and it is not easily suppressed.

Living positively with HIV/AIDS in the Church(ELCRN)

One of the most important aspects of living positively with HIV/AIDS in the church is love: love for one another and a love relationship with God. We have now been debating the moral issues related to HIV/AIDS for more than ten years. Bayley is very concerned with the care of caregivers as the task of the Church.

Conclusion

It is clear that HIV/AIDS has not come to Walvis Bay as a visitor, but to stay.

Introduction

Family life

Traditionally, the family structure is seen as providing support for people when they are ill. However, because of the stigma and potential risk of transmission, HTV can have an impact on the choice of partners, the availability of support, relationships with children and the psychological well-being of the family. Due to the nature of confidentiality in HIV/AIDS, especially in the initial stages of HTV status, some family members are excluded.

Community life

In this way they can fight the infection and contribute to reducing the effect of the killer disease on the family and community. For the sustainability of the HIV/AIDS program in the Walvis Bay community, there is a need to involve community members and existing local leadership. All of this can happen in the midst of maintaining ownership of the program while making a living from it.

The dynamics of the process of social reconciliation in the pandemic of HIV/AIDS i) Definition of reconciliation

Another lie is that AIDS is not in rural Walvis Bay, but only in urban Walvis Bay. At this stage the process needs the buy-in and engagement of the entire Walvis Bay community. It is one of the most difficult parts of the reconciliation process with women rejected by family, friends and community members in Walvis Bay.

Remedy

It seems problematic to deal with these feelings and their consequences, but it may be possible to reduce the spread of the epidemic or prolong their lives. Others do not reach this stage or argument: they are at the stage of accepting everything, even reconciliation, without justice. A further dynamic of social reconciliation in Walvis Bay is addressing economic justice for all community members.

A healing relationship

Life is not in our hands, not even under our control, so AIDS sufferers sometimes find it very difficult to reconcile with God, especially those who experience HIV/AIDS as a punishment from God. The will to live is one of the most powerful medicines for women living with HIV/AIDS. So think about how important you are to yourself and if you can tackle what seems like the biggest obstacle in your life, aim for goals like: "I will break the silence of the epidemic" or "I will get information and empower myself about HIV/AIDS ".

Conclusion

The family of people living with AIDS and the community are suffering and need a lot of attention and reconciliation. Taylor says that "health has to do with the whole personality and everything that affects people's well-being, and 'disease' is not limited to physical injury or illness, but also includes emotional and social factors. Social reconciliation is not just a task that to be achieved : becomes a call from the oppressors to repentance and service for the entire community of Walvis Bay.

Introduction

What is pastoral care?

THE NEED FOR EFFECTIVE PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING MODELS FOR URBAN AND RURAL WOMEN IN WALVISBAY. 34;Pastoral counseling' is a term more popular today than 'pastoral care', but it is limited in scope and should not be used interchangeably with pastoral care, which is an all-encompassing term. The use of the term 'pastoral' is in the vocabulary and very rare in ELCRN practice.

Crisis

The Namibian method of counselling

In Walvis Bay, in addition to doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, teachers and religious workers, anyone who has been specially trained in HIV/AIDS counseling can provide counselling. iv) Where do they advise?. Before secondary prevention counseling is provided, pre- and post-test counseling is provided (HIV/AIDS Home Base Care Handbook 2000:6). ii) Pre-test counseling. Bereavement counseling is counseling offered to patients with HTV/AIDS in the final days of their HTV infection.

Models of effective pastoral care and counselling

It is the counselor's job to help the client sort through feelings and prioritize them. In other words, the client must choose a part of the problem to begin with. Finally, the counselor should encourage the client to follow the counseling process.

Conclusion

In relation to the biblical understanding of shepherd, it clearly shows the priest's character as a pastor. Therefore, pastoral work can be considered pastoral care, because this involves all aspects of the ministry. Reconciliation: The ministry of pastoral care and counseling also consists of the reconciliation of troubled individuals whose problems arise in the context of ultimate meanings and concerns (Clebsch and Jaekle 1964:4).

FINDINGS

The main difference lies in the setting in which it takes place, the Biblical and spiritual resources called upon to assist the individual or family members seeking the counselor's intervention for health and wholeness (1985:13). In terms of access, most of the women from Walvis Bay were so enthusiastic that they accompanied me to other places in the Erongo region to interview other women and organize workshops for them. Practical limitations were also not absent, such as little written information about the Topnaar community.

CONCLUSION

Every Namibian must actively contribute to the fight against the challenge of HIV/AIDS. This is a model of the integration of the old and new generation in the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Therefore, ELCRN congregations in Walvis Bay need to rethink and reshape their pastoral care and counseling resources to be more effective and compassionate in the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Counselling centre

Education

The negative and degrading images of women as carriers of HIV and those who promote HIV/AIDS must be changed. Printed materials for HIV/AIDS are very limited and if available, tend to be in English, which most people do not understand. Information, education and communication can contribute positively to fighting the pandemic of HIV/AIDS in Walvis Bay.

Church (ELCRN) prevention

The history of apartheid in Namibia has clearly shown the role of the church in protecting people's Human Rights. Research contributes to effective pastoral care and counseling of the women in Walvis Bay who are contracted with HIV/AIDS.
