The fundamental nature of this work examines a detailed account of South African Indian migration to New Zealand. South African Indian diasporans in New Zealand were interviewed and observed in their new homes.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM

  • AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
  • LITERATURE REVIEW

One of the most central building blocks involved in the conceptualization of the research report was the literature review. This book was helpful in structuring some of the questions (regarding emotional aspects of migration) that were included in my questionnaire.

Semi-structured personal interviews\NS were conducted with South African Indian migrants in New Zealand and South African Indians in South Africa. In South Africa, respondents were South African Indians in the process of migrating to New Zealand.

METHODS OF DATA ANALYSIS

  • ANALYSIS OF THE PERSONAL INTERVIEWS IN NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH AFRICA
  • ANALYSIS OF THE SURVEY IN NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH AFRICA

I ensured that the conclusions responded to the complexity of the issues surrounding migration in New Zealand. The reliability of the questionnaires was weighed against consistent measures that could be compared to New Zealand and South Africa.

NEW ZEALAND IMMIGRATION PROFILE AND STATISTICS

IMMIGRATION PROFILE AND STATISTICS

It is evident that the number of immigrants and long-term arrivals to New Zealand is steadily increasing. I have not been able to find specific information on the number of South African Indian immigrants in New Zealand.

IMMIGRATION - PULL AND PUSH FACTORS

According to Protea Pacific Limited Immigration Consultants, there is a chronic skills shortage in New Zealand. Some of the potential immigrants who have never been to New Zealand have unrealistic expectations of life in New Zealand.

DATA ANALYSIS - SOUTH AFRICAN INDIANS IN NEW

ZEALAND

DESCRIPTION OF CASE STUDIES

Viren, his VJife and their two children have been in New Zealand for four years. Viren and his family have been in New Zealand for four years and one month.

ANALYSIS OF DATA

  • PERSONAL INTERVIEWS - CENTRAL THEMES

They \Nere the newest migrants from South Africa who \Nere interviewed\Ned in New Zealand. Similarly, for many South African Indians, their migration to New Zealand was their first experience abroad. The cultural needs and desires of South African Indians in New Zealand are a product of upbringing (religion, values, customs, language and social stratification) inculcated in South Africa.

Most South African Indians interviewed in New Zealand believed that they were culturally superior to Indians from Fiji and India.

During the personal interview in New Zealand, Vinesh Naidoo said that in South Africa he would have only Indian friends in his house. The shifting of responsibilities and division of labor in the home emphasizes the role of the male parent in the New Zealand home. South African Indian men are more involved in childcare and housework in New Zealand than in South Africa.

For South African Indians in New Zealand, money is being spent on the individual (who is fed up) rather than hoarding at home to be enjoyed by the entire nuclear family.

SURVEY POPULATION REPRESENTATION IN NEW

This section interrogates the opinions of people living in New Zealand, their reaction to the high number of immigrants entering the country, and also examines the availability of employment in New Zealand. The study population consisted of New Zealand Europeans, South African Indians, Asians, British Europeans, Maori, Fijian and Cook Islanders. The demographics of these areas consist of a large number of New Zealand Europeans and a small number of foreigners (Asians, South Africans and British Europeans).

It was only in the later days of my stay in New Zealand that I discovered that most Maori and Cook Islanders live further away from urban areas.

SURVEY POPULATION SEX RATIO

The majority of respondents (57.5%) who answered the questionnaires were New Zealand Europeans (or Pakehas as they are called in New Zealand). New Zealand is similar to South Africa in that there are pockets of other racial groups that occupy geographic areas that are saturated with one large racial group of people. In Remuera, for example, the majority of residents are New Zealand Europeans, while other racial and ethnic minority groups are scattered.

Sections D and E of the questionnaires concentrated on the respondents' educational background and their employment status.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Additionally, 1 Fiji Indian, 4 South African Indians and 1 New Zealand European (who has dual citizenship with South Africa) thought that it was difficult to find work in New Zealand. They live together and work together and are not involved in New Zealand culture and society." For example, the physical appearance of South African Indians causes confusion among other races in New Zealand.

The struggle for employment in New Zealand has certainly created tension between different races.

    • THE SURVEY - DATA INTERPRETATION

Marlena's husband was in New Zealand in January 2003 and personally applied for a job in the education sector. At the time, teachers were in demand in New Zealand and the South African currency was strong. Three main motivating factors contributed to South African Indians' decision to migrate to New Zealand.

Five respondents agreed that New Zealand was the only other country similar to South Africa.

SURVEY POPULATION IN SOUTH AFRICA

EMPLOYMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

EMPLOYMENT STATISTICS

The crucial question to the working part of the population was 'How did you get a job?' (Section 0, question 5. See Appendix A).

OPINIONS OF EMPLOYMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

REASONS FOR MIGRATION

In addition, high crime (rape, murder, theft), high inflation, poverty, racism, an inexperienced government, the AIDS crisis, poor economic growth and low educational standards were listed as reasons for emigrating from South Africa. A large but underestimated factor is the increase in the number of people leaving the country. A simple table - Table 5 effectively conveys the main reasons for migration from the specific racial groups in South Africa.

The main conclusion based on the questionnaire is that the two main causes of dissatisfaction in South Africa are unemployment or inaccessibility to employment and the impact of crime on the population.

KEY INFORMANTS

KEY INFORMANT'S VIEWS OF SOUTH AFRICAN INDIAN MIGRATION

Countries like New Zealand offer South African Indians opportunities (such as employment) that they no longer have access to in South Africa. Makan believes that an underestimated driving variable for South African Indian migration is “brainwashing” (Personal interview with key informants). South African Indians are realizing that there are opportunities elsewhere, if not in South Africa.

He summarized by saying that South African Indian migrants evaluate South Africa from a very narrow perspective.

CONCLUSION

The most important foundation on which my theme is based was obtained from interview respondents in New Zealand and South Africa. All respondents in New Zealand were employed in South Africa before moving. The life of the new diasporas in New Zealand was not without obstacles.

Crime was the main reason for immigration to New Zealand by respondents interviewed in South Africa.

Justice Minister Ph" Goff: government is cracking down on serious and repeat young offenders. 12 million earmarked in Budget for Day Reporting Centers where Corrections, Children, Youth and Families will provide intensive individualized programs to help children who have moved away from them will offer populist, simplistic options that will do nothing to reduce youth crime in the long term.

The government led by Helen Clark will focus on delivering real solutions to tackle serious problems such as youth crime.

Words that hurt cut to core f racial debate

One was turned down a job because the $16 an hour wage was "too low" for someone so qualified. 34;There are a lot of sensitive issues there," says the white South African carrier. "Many New Zealanders are not aware. And the black Zimbabwean with a master's degree and 18 years in the bank: "This could jeopardize our future chances."

These three try to get by working for a telemarketing firm where the day is low and they have to convince.

So these fluent but strong!) accented English speakers volunteer their free time to get the experience, only to be told the company doesn't do that kind of thing. Most of the 20 employees at the telemarketing company are expats, and if they don't meet their weekly targets, they'll lose their jobs too.
