Jewish Candidates at Municipal Elections.

Among the propo ed candidates at the forthcoming Uunicipal Elections are two members of the Jewi ·h Community, both of

whom intend to contest Ward Six. The geHtlemen are Me ... srs. M. Gurland and A.

Bloomberg.

Mr. Gurland is a well-known figure in the Jewish Community, having been for a certain period Vice-Pre ident of the Dorshei Zion A sociation and President of the New Hebre\Y Congregation (Roeland Street Synagogue). which latter position he till holds.

We have been a ked, on behalf of the Chairman and Committee of the Bnoth Zion Association, to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of a donation of £100 :from the RE>v.

A. P. Bender in his capacity as executor in the e tate of the late Mrs. P. l\foffson.

The donation is to be :forwarded to Kfar Yeladim, the children's colony in Palestine, which is being maintained by South African 1\.·omen Zionists.

The Bnoth Zion Committee are extreme ;J grateful to Mr. Bender and appreciate very deeply his thoughtful and generous action.

Doings at Victoria West.

A dance, styled "The Grand Novelty Ball," unique in the annals of Victoria W e::it, was held in the local Town Hall on the 8th instant. The Hall was tastefully and arti tically decorated, many novelties in decorations being introduced.

The function \Ya organi ed by the inde- fatigable workers, l\Ie dames J ocum and Hir. chberg, and proYed a wonderful success both ..,ocially and financially.

Concert at Orphanage.

A v ry gorgeous a:fl'.air wa. the Ho pital Ha!l, which took place at the City Hall on Tue day evening last. The Hall was very beautifully decorated_, brilliant illuminations and an extremely arti tic arrangement of greenery forming the ba ic features of the decoration scheme.
