The Scholarly Publishing Programme of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) invites you to a webinar entitled

What it means to be a journal editor

Journal editors from a range of disciplines will share their personal experiences of being an editor of a scholarly journal.

Invitation

This webinar is the third in the New Editor Series which aims to provide new editors of South African scholarly journals with the tools to implement publishing best practice and boost their confidence as editors.

CHAIR

Phillip de Jageris an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance & Tax at the University of Cape Town. He is an Associate Editor of Meditari Accountancy Research, the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies and the South African Journal of Accounting Research, and a Member ofASSAf’sCommittee on Scholarly Publishing in South Africa (CSPiSA).

Gerhard van den Heever is Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Studies at Unisa. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Religion &

Theology.

Trevor Hillis a Professor of Physical Geography and an‘all-rounder’

geographer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is the ex-co- Editor of theSouth Africa Geographical Journal, the current Editor- in-Chief of Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa and the interim Editor ofJournal of Geography Education in Africa.

Wallace Chuma is Associate Professor of Media Studies at the University of Cape Town. He is the Editor ofAfrican Journalism Studies.

PANELLISTS

Fhumulani Mavis Malaudzi is a Professor of Nursing Science at the University of Pretoria. She is the Editor-in-Chief ofCurationis.

Jemma Finch is an Associate Professor in Geography at the University of KwaZulu- Natal. She is an Associate Editor for theSouth African Journal of Sciencein the field of Archaeology, Anthropology and Palaeontology.
