Concern about city’s debt at Midvaal Water 3

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Petrus Cor- nelius Rudolph Claassens (27) of Dawkinsville is in custody for posses- sion of gold concentrate.

After a brief appearance in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday May 30 he was remanded in custody.

“The accused’s court appearance stems from his apprehension the previous Friday May 27, after members of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Illicit Mining Unit as well as the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investiga- tion (DPCI) followed up on in- formation about an illegal gold processing plant at a certain house in Dawkinsville.

Upon searching the house,

50 kg of gold bearing material, equipment and other substances used to process gold were found,” said Capt Afjee Botma, police spokesper- son.“Subsequently, Claassens was ar- rested and charged. He will appear again at the same court on Monday June 6 for a formal bail application.”

The DPCI is investigating.

“This attitude of ignoring correspondence and/or not adhering to agreements threatens the continued sup- ply of bulk water to our City,’’ Dikoko said in a state- ment to Lentswe. “In sim- ple terms, when the City of Matlosana fails or refuses to settle its debt, the company will not be in a position to deliver bulk water. This will lead to residents not having access to clean water as they

within our power to avoid taking that unwelcome but at times unavoidable step.”

Midvaal requested the pro- vincial government and DWS to intervene. “We urged the entities to assist in facilita- ting payments within 14 days that expires on June 3. It is our wish that the City of Mat- losana will play its part by meeting its financial obliga- tions to Midvaal Water Com- pany so that a water disaster is avoided,’’ Dikoko said.

High, Klerks- dorp Technical high, Keurhof and New Vision.

The purpose of these visits as outlined by Sindiswa Majova from the City of Matlosana mayo- ral office was to educate the

learners and raise awareness on crimes happening on school premises such as bullying, substance abuse, sexual of- fences as well as gangsterism.

When addressing the learners, the social crime prevention officer for Klerksdorp SAPS, Const Brenda Mabot- ja, urged the learners to love and care enough for each other and refrain from entertaining and supporting bullies as it encourages their behaviour and hurt other learners in the process. She also requested them to stop taking videos of it and distributing them as it may lead to unnecessary suicides.

Capt Binang Matsi from Klerks- dorp Visible Policing pleaded with the learners to know their main purpose of going to school which he said is to learn and become valuable members of so-

ciety. He explained the unpleasant living conditions in the police holding cells as he urged the learners not to be fooled by anyone.

He said crime will ruin their future and they will have criminal records that may doom chances of them get- ting employed in prominent sectors.

Matsi said their visits to schools is just a way of showing how much they love the learners and would love to see them going far in life that is why despite their busy work schedules they still choose to prioritize school visits. “Respect your teachers the same way you respect your parents. Crime will destroy you,” Matsi concluded.

Palesa Mpatane from Thuthuzela Care Centre explained the role played by her institution and also educated

the learners about sexual offences and explained what they must do should they become victims of rape.

Odiseng More from Correctional Services explained the role of correc- tional service af- ter perpetra- tors have been sentenced to imprisonment and educated the learners about the rehabilitation process. He urged learners not to lose focus and stay away from gangsterism and all forms of criminality.
