REQUEST TO HOLD A BOOK EXHIBITION AT THE FOYER: 28-29 AUGUST 2013
1. One of the library’s mandates is to constantly upgrade its collection to meet the needs of an ever-changing clientele. This is done annually by spending the money allocated to the different Faculties. Each Faculty is afforded an opportunity to identify prescribed and recommended books that could be housed in the library and made available to the library users.
2. Starting from last year, a need arose to hold, on an annual basis a book exhibition whose aim is to bring the books closer to the users. During a book exhibition, invited booksellers (sometimes called vendors), are invited to display their wares (books, DVDs and CDs) in identified venues within the campus. Vendors are provided with a list of all the departments and the subjects that they cover and are requested to display those specific items that could help in the collection development.
3. Lecturers are invited to select all those items that may add value to the existing collection. It is also an opportune time for them to interact with the vendors, exchange ideas and suggest the types of publishers that have books relevant to their fields of study.
4. It is through book exhibitions that the time it takes to order books is reduced as books are brought to our doorsteps. This, in addition, ensures that within few days all the purchased items would be available to be accessed.
5. By decentralizing the book exhibition, the library wants to make sure that the members of staff access only what is relevant to them on their doorstep and will not have to travel out of their workstations/buildings.

6. The library would also like to request the departments, during the book exhibition to make use of the available funds (Information Librarians are always available to give updates on funds) before the end of the current financial year as this will also have a positive impact on the type of collection that the library keeps and provide to its clientele.
7. Hoping you find this in order
