Palestine Film at the Empire Exhibition
Visit the Industrial Cinema!
Visitors to the Empire Exhibition should not fail to see the film "The Land of Pro- mise" which will be shown at the Indus- trial Cinema (situated just within the main tram entrance and adjoining the arena).
Admission is free. In view of the unpre- cedented success of this film, it has been arranged to give releases to-morrow, Thurs- day, and also on Saturday evening.
"The Land of Promise" is undoubtedly the finest film of Eretz Israel ever to J:iave reached this country and it is well worth a visit on the part of any interested visitor to the Exhibition.

The annual election of the Helping Hand and Burial Society took place recently. Mr.

MISS BETSY DE LA PORTE.
An interesting musical event is the first public appearance in Johannesburg since her return to lhis country of Miss Betsy
• de la Porte, the celebl'atecl singer, who made such a name for herself overseas. She has sung in opera at Covent Garden and at the Royal Albert Hall and became a well- known singer in British broadcasting circles.
Miss de la Porte has arranged a delight- ful selection of songs. She will be accom- panied at the piano by Miss Suzanne Mar- golis, the well-kno,vn pianist, and the con- cert will take place on Tuesday, October 8, at the Selborne Hall at 8 p.m.

THE )1ETRO THEATRE.The current attraction at the Metro Theatre is "Suzy," a film with Jean Har- low, Cary Grant and Franchot Tone in the leading roles. From Friday the f ea tu re film is "His Brother's Wife" and co-stars Bar- bara Stanwyck and Hobert Taylor. Sup- porting them in this story of a young scien- tist who embarks on an expedition into the tropical jungle, and comes home, only to find that his brother has married his sweet- heart, are Jean Hersholt and Joseph Calleia.
The programmes supporting both films are of an excelle11t variety.

Aliwal Tortb.-The Gedud at Aliwal
~orth, which was disbanded recently, has been revived again owing to a spontaneous demand from the children themselves that Habonim should again be established in that area.
Transvaal Holds Sports Rally.-At the close of the winter sports season, Trans- vaal Habonim held a final rally at their sports ground at Braamfontein. All the Ge- dudim from the East and West Rand were repre ented. 'l'he final hockey match was played between Gedudim Esther and De- b<>rah, resulting in a win for the latter bv 2 goals to 1. Handfontein.-A d monstration of Ha- bonim work is being staged at Randfontein on the evening of Sunday, October 11.
Several Gedudim are journeying from Jo- hannesburg to participate in the display, which is primarily intended to give parents and friends an insight into the nature of the work undertaken in Habonim.

An inaugural cabaret, organised by the
l{ ensington .Jewish Club, will be held at the Wandere1·s Hall on Wednesday, October 14.
