Prof

Stan du Plessis is a macroeconomist at Stellenbosch University where he is Chief Operating Officer and formerly Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. He is also a Professor of Economics. He studied at the Universities of Cambridge and Stellenbosch and is a former President of the Economic Society of South Africa. He was a member of the “Harvard group” of economists who advised the South African government on policy since 2006. His scholarly publications have focused on monetary policy and the business cycle but he has also written on a wide range of related topics. He is a National Research Foundation “rated” researcher.

1. About these Terms

1.1 These terms govern your participation as a presenter or speaker in any webinars, discussions or other events participated in or hosted by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).

1.2 By agreeing to be a speaker or presenter at an event, you are taken to agree to these terms and a binding agreement is formed between yourself and ASSAf incorporating these terms.

2. Your Intellectual Property

2.1 You retain ownership of all copyright you own in the content that you disclose or present to the audience in the course of an event (Your Content). This includes, for example, any visual presentation aids or written materials.

2.2 ASSAf will only use Your Content in accordance with these terms or as we otherwise mutually agree in writing.

3. Recordings of Events

3.1 You agree that ASSAf may make, or have made for it, audio and/or video recordings of the whole or any part of an event at which you speak or present (Recordings). You grant ASSAf a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to reproduce Your Content for the purpose of making Recordings.

3.2 You acknowledge that ASSAf owns the copyright in all Recordings. For the avoidance of doubt, this does not affect ownership of copyright in Your Content which remains your property.

4. Live Streaming of Sessions

4.1 If the event is a webinar, you grant ASSAf a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use Your Content for the purposes of live-streaming the event via the Internet (e.g.

facebook, YouTube, etc).

5. Access to Recordings

5.1 You grant ASSAf a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to reproduce Your Content for the purpose of ASSAf distributing or providing third parties with access to Recordings via the Internet or otherwise, on such terms as ASSAf considers appropriate.

5.2 Unless you notify ASSAf otherwise, ASSAf will endeavour to provide individuals who access event programmes and Recordings with your photo, a brief profile and your contact details.

5.3 ASSAf reserves the right at any time to delete and/or disable access to any Recordings.

6. Warranties

6.1 You warrant that you own or are licensed to use all content that you disclose or present in the course of an event.

6.2 You warrant that ASSAf’s recording, use and reproduction of content that you disclose or

present in the course of an event will not infringe the intellectual property rights of any person or organisation.

7. Other Terms

7.1 You consent to ASSAf collecting, using and disclosing your personal information to the extent reasonably necessary to enable ASSAf to comply with these terms and to take full advantage of the licences granted by you to it under these terms.

7.2 Invalidity of any provisions in these terms does not affect any other provisions.

7.3 These terms are governed by and shall be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
