Living our heritage
September is Heritage Month. During the next couple of weeks, South Africans will be asked to recognise and celebrate our cultural wealth. We celebrate the month by remembering the cultural heritage of the many
cultures that make up the population of our nation. This, our living heritage is an essential source of identity – our traditions and history. Young Clarissa du Plessis is getting into the spirit of Heritage Month, celebrating our flag and our love for expressing ourselves through dance.

BONUS - RUSTENBURG - The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West on Monday (5 September) expressed shock and called for a change in driver behavior.
This follows a horrific head-on-collision involving a bakkie and a light motor vehicle that claimed five lives on the Manamakgoteng and Northam Junction along the R510 Rustenburg-Thabazimbi road over the weekend.
SANCO Provincial Chairperson, Paul Sebegoe called for zero tolerance road traffic law enforcement and increased visibility on public roads.
“We wish to convey our condolences to families that lost their loved ones in the horrific crash and also wish the injured passenger rushed to hospital with serious injuries a speedy recovery,” highlighted Sebegoe.
According to Provincial Road Traffic Management authorities, all five people succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident that occurred on Saturday night (3 September).
He remarked that the extent to which speeding and reckless driving contribute towards the carnage on public roads is of great concern as most of the accidents including fatalities are preventable, i.e. if all road users observe the rules of the road as well as adhere to the prescribed speed limit. He appealed to motorists to avoid fatigue by resting after every 200 kilometers or two hours of driving.
“Authorities must also clamp down on drunken driving particularly during weekends to reduce the carnage on our public roads,” he added.
