Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Schools reo- pened on Monday 8 June for grade 7 and 12s after an eleven week closure.
At Jouberton’s Are-Itshokeng Prima- ry School things were going well with
teachers welcoming the learners back.
Speaking to the school principal Charlotte Melela she said: “Today (Monday), which is the first day of reopening we started very well with
parents accompany- ing their children to school which is some- thing unusual.”
Melela also con- firmed that out of 146 learners expected, 92

were present.
She said they issued two face masks each per learner provided by the pro- vincial Education department.
“On the arrival, learners were lined up outside the school yard and 1.5 me- tre for social distancing was practiced.
At the entrance, screening and sanitiza- tion were done before they could pro- ceed to their respective classrooms.
“Each classroom is allocated 20 lear-
ners. Myself, together with one of the Covid-19 committee members did ori- entation for the parents. Other parents phoned the school to confirm if indeed the schools were reopened, because they were not sure if they should send their children to school or not,” principal Melela said.
She added that they are expecting a full complement of learner attendance in the coming days.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A pedestrian was injured when a car knocked her over near the corner of OR Tambo and Voortrekker Street in Klerksdorp CBD.
The impact of the crash knocked her clear out of her shoes and a pair of red takkies and a black bag were lying next to her in the road. Blood was streaming from her ears and onlookers were afraid she might die.
The police and the ambulance ar- rived on the scene and the driver of a grey Toyota RunX was heard telling the police that he doesn’t have a driver’s li- cense on him and that he left his license at home.
Lentswe heard how some of the on- lookers praised the driver for not run- ning away from the scene.
Speaking to the North West police spokesperson Col Adele Myburgh she confirmed that a case of reckless and negligent driving are investigated.
“When the police arrived at the scene they found a vehicle that knocked someone over. The victim was injured and taken to the hospital by ambu- lance.”
Col Myburgh said the victim is a 49-year-old woman. She also confirmed that the driver had no driver’s license and only a learner’s permit.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Registration authorities, driver’s license testing centres and vehicle testing centres in the city and Orkney resumed their services on 1 June as part of level 3.
According to Kelebogile Moleko, media relations officer, vehicle regis- tration and licensing are available till Friday 12 June, while vehicle license renewals will be available from 15 to 26 June.
“All the services will be available from 29 June onwards,” said Moleko.
Between 15 and 30 June, the driv- er’s license testing centre will handle collection of driver’s license cards, renewal of drivers and PrDP licenses and the applications for learners li- censes.
The vehicle testing station is also operating for all roadworthy tests.
The licensing offices in Stilfontein and Hartbeesfontein are also open for all services. The Stilfontein li- cense office was closed earlier this week after the office needed to be
contaminated due to a customer visi- ting the office who tested positive for Covid-19. License offices in the Kosh Area will be open from 07:45 until 14:00 daily. Check beforehand as only a restricted number of appli- cants will be served per day.
Motor vehicle license renewals are also available at the city’s main Post Office (PO) at City Mall.
The PO advised motorists to avoid the period from the 4th to the 7th of every month, as branches deal with Sassa payments. “Another date to avoid is the 21st of every month. Car owners receive 21 days grace after the expiry of their car licenses, and Post Offices find that customers flock to the branches on this day to renew at the last minute,” it said.
Most branches that do renewals also offer a bulk renewal service for fleet owners.
License disks that expired during lockdown will be valid for 90 days after 31 May.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A 17-year-old Jouberton’s Tshedimosetso Secondary School learner died in hospital after a horror crash in Roosheuwel on Thurs- day 4 June.
Koketso Isaac Wolushe was a grade 10 learner who was working a part time job as a trolley attendant at Checkers Hyper during his untimely death.
Three vehicles were involved in the accident in Goedehoop Street at Roos- heuwel around 18:20.
Koketso’s sister Nozililo Wolushe (40) said: “Koketso and his colleagues were on their way back from work when they
got a lift on the back of a bakkie that was involved in an accident.
“According to the infor- mation we had, the driver suddenly started to drive faster. They asked him to slow down but he skipped the stop street and caused the accident.”
Pieter Ludick who was in one of the bakkies involved in the accident, also told Lentswe that the driver of the white GWM bakkie was speeding and skipped the
stop street.
Nozililo said: “Koketso was a very respectful person, humbled and passionate about soccer as he was also a goalkeeper at his school.
“As a family we lost a person we looked up to, because we could see how independent he was as he was doing part time jobs, while at school he also won so many medals for his par- ticipation in soccer.”
Col Adelé Myburgh, po-
lice spokesperson said the GWM bakkie collided with a Mercedes-Benz. “During the impact one of the bakkies over- turned and landed on a Ford Ranger.”
“The GWM bakkie was transporting five young men. All five of them, plus the driver were transported to Tshe- pong Hospital. Sadly, one of the teen- agers on the back of the bakkie passed away,” she said.
The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Koketso’s funeral service will be on Saturday13 June from 07:00 at his home, 14770 Ext 13 Jouberton.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The total num- ber of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the North West province is 604.
As of Wednesday 10 June, 104 pa- tients recovered in the province. At the time of going to press, only one person died of the disease in the NW.
According to the Department of Health, the majority of active cases in the province are in Rustenburg (301/499) and Matlosana (140/499).
Although there has been an increase in the number of confirmed cases in Dr Kenneth Kaunda district, an increase in
recoveries has been noted.
Twelve unallocated cases were real- located to other provinces after verifi- cation of addresses. Seven cases were allocated to Limpopo, four to Gauteng and one to the Free State.
South Africa now has 52 991 con-
firmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavi- rus and 1 162 deaths, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced.
Mkhize said a total of just over 968 000 tests have been conducted in the public and private sector, with 25 000 tests conducted in the past 24 hours.
Beware of job scams on
social media
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Executive Management of Klerks- dorp/Tshepong (K/T) Hospital Complex said they recently noticed a number of public complaints of people who paid money for jobs promised in K/T Hospital.
Hospital spokesperson Nico Masiu said: “We want to warn the public about these con artists who pretend to be HR Personnel working for the hospital and con people into transacting their money in exchange for hospital jobs.
“Some will request an upfront amount before any job is of- fered. The scammers advertise on social media. K/T Hospital has one Facebook page and no posts are advertised on that social media. Avoid falling victim to this scam. All posts are advertised in national newspapers with clear reference and contact details to conform inauthenticity of the posts.”
Masiu said you should not be paying a recruiter to get short- listed, interviewed and employed in any government department.
“If you are requested money for the post, then you have the right to immediately report the matter to the police. Our hospital complex is committed to clean and fair processes of human re- source recruitment as governed by Department of Public Service and Administrations (DPSA),” he added.
Unemployed Brian Mtayi, Refilwe Moroke, Benedict Losie, Kabelo Pholo and Otlotleng Koras decided to design speed humps at Ext 7 in Jouberton to avoid any accidents.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha told journalists that if Covid-19 positive cases continues to grow in Matlosana and Rustenburg, the Department will encourage a move back to level 5 of lockdown in these districts.
He said the Provincial Covid-19 Command Council and eventually Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize can make the decision.
Sambatha lead a provincial Covid-19 departmental response review session at Protea Hotel in Klerksdorp on Tues- day 9 June. At that session, an in-depth analysis of each district in the province’s Covid-19 status was conducted.
He said level 3 (from 1 June) poses challenges especially from the mines around Rustenburg and Matlosana, essential services like Correctional Ser- vices, SAPS, banks, health and others.
“Khuma and Kanana are now parts of the communities with an attitude of not complying, because it appears that there’s no more lockdown there.
“For example, within 6 days from 3 to 8 June, both Rustenburg and Matlosana increased the number to more than 200 positive cases. We are not going to com- promise the situation for going back to level 4, but I’ll motivate to go back to level 5 if needs be,” Sambatha said.

He said at least 3.3 million were screened in NW, but his challenge is that people do not take the question- naire seriously by answering all ques- tions ‘no’ and automatically are not considered suspect.
The MEC said people found lying can face criminal prosecution.
After the review, the MEC instructed the district directors to create a mining focused team and list mineworkers who are still coming back to work.
Asked about solutions for the pro- vince he said: “There’s going to be a weekly meeting review of the mines together with health. A nurse together with 10 Community Health Workers will be deployed to the mine commu- nities from the municipal wards for a comprehensive health screening.
“There will be screening at the malls and we already screen the provincial borders. People from outside our prov- ince and also the ones from Botswana.”

Lentswe, Morokweng - NW Pre- mier, Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro said he’s confident that learners of the newly built schools in Dr Ruth Sego- motsi Mompati District are bound to produce great results due to the improved learning environment.
Premier Mokgoro who was ac- companied by Education MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela handed over 3 completed schools to the community in Great Taung and Kagisano-Molopo local municipali- ties and monitored the reopening of schools in the area.
“It is a learning environment.
They are able to comprehend faster unlike in schools with bad infrastructure. These are the state of the art schools that we hope communities will take care of and avoid vandalism. This is a great in- vestment for these communities,”
remarked Premier Mokgoro.
Schools which were handed over were Mokgareng Second- ary school in Taung and Maiketso Primary in Morokweng. They have classrooms, science laboratories, computer rooms, multipurpose classrooms, libraries, administra- tion office, nutrition centre, dining
hall and many other facilities.
“We’re certain that we will be able to comply with all the Covid 19 reg- ulations. There are more classrooms to scatter our leaners, there’s a lot of space for learners to observe so- cial distance in the classrooms and outside the classes. We are elated to be handing over the schools today,”
MEC Matsemela said.
The department built the new schools following a high need for new schools within the Kagisano
Molopo area. Over 100 000 learners of Grade 7 and 12 learners in the province, went back to school.
“All schools have infrared ther- mometers, cloth masks and face shields. Sanitizers as well as hand soaps were delivered. With these materials and the observation of precautionary measures such as social distancing, we’re hopeful that teachers and learners are protected against the virus,” concluded Pre- mier Mokgoro.
Farm patrols welcomed
- DA
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The DA in NW wel- comes the resumption of farm patrols and neighborhood watches in terms of Level 3 Lockdown Regulations that came into effect on 28 May.
According to Jacqueline Theologo, spokes- person on Agriculture and Rural Develop- ment, the increase in stock theft and farm attacks during the lockdown can be directly linked to the banning of farm patrols and therefore this amendment of Regulation 33(1) of the Disaster Management Act is an important breakthrough.
Since the inception of the lockdown pe- riod, the DA has been opposed to the prohi- bition of neighbourhood watches, Communi- ty Policing Forums and Farm Patrols to assist in securing communities, simply because the SAPS is under resourced and therefore not up to the task.
The gruesome farm attack in Reivilo last weekend, once again highlights the unsafe conditions in which people living in rural areas are subjected to.
