Several changes in the Governing body of the United Hebrew Congrega- tion have taken place as the result of a cable received from the president, Mr. H. Herber, that he has been in- definitely detained in America and that under the circumstances he felt that he should resign his office.
Mr. Herber's resignation was ac- cepted with regret, and the Council decided to elect Mr.
I. A. Maisels, thepresent vice-president, as president of the congregation.
Dr. J. Schwartz, a member of the Council and of the Internal Manage- ment Committee, was elected vice- president and Mr. Henry Levy was elected to fill the office of Dr.
Schwartz.

at h1s farewell recital at the C1ty Hall on Monday night. At the close of the concert he was called out for many encores, which he gave g.enerously. The Beethoven Appal:>- siOnata was performed with breadth of vision and great depth. The group of Chopin in which Loyonnet excelled, displayed a wide range of technique and purity of tone.
The concert at the City Hall con- cluded a successful South African tour which will long be remembered.
