The City Hall in Johanneshurg was crowded on \Vednesday evening when 1,500 guests assembled on the occasion of the annual ball held 0·1

behalf of the S.A. Jewish Orphanage.

The auditorium was decorated wii:i'l flowers. The gathering was repre- sentative of the whole of Reef Jewry and there were many distinguishej personalities present headed by the Mayor and Mayoress of Johannes- burg, Chief Rabbi, Dr. J. L. Landau, and Mrs. Landau. Rev. Dr. A. T.

Weiler, Mr. and Mrs. W. Hillman, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hellman, Mr. and Mrs. B. Kaumheimer and Mr. and .Mrs. Maurice Franks.

Much credit is due to the Ball Committee of the Orphanage for the great success of the function, from which it is hoped that a substantial sum has been raised for the funds of a worthy institution.

HE annual ball organised by the United Hebrew Institutions of Benoni, will take place at the Town Hall, Benoni, on Wednesday night, November 16th. The function will take the form of a Grand Cabaret.

No efforts have been spared to make it an outstanding success. Chas. Ber- man's band will supply the music.

The price of admission is one guinea per double ticket, and booking may be made at the Hebrew Hall,

At the reception, which was held at the New City Hall, the bride's sister, Mrs. J. Hartman, received the guests.
