Gough G64 blog by Cathy Mbazwana (Medic) Happy Birthday Christopher Jones

Our month started with a bang as one of our team members Chris

was celebrating his birthday on the 01st of November 2018 and I (Catherine) had the honour and privilege of planning the spectacular event. As it is my first time ever being on the island I had no idea what it was that was expected of me, so when we decided on planning each other’s birthday parties and mine was the first one to plan , I have to admit I was a little nervous of what was expected of me.

Well I think I had about two weeks to plan, but the ideas really started pouring in just a few days before the day, I called home and spoke to my sister and she helped me to make an awesome poster of the day so the people would look forward to attending, and when discussing with my fellow team mates

particularly Kabelo Moabi we came up with an idea for the decoration we would have using what is accessible to us and the theme for the night included us wearing masks so we had to do those also. It turned out to be a busy task on the day as everything came together and the whole team pitched in, in whatever way they could from putting up decorations to baking a cake and making desert dishes and also playing deejay for the night.

It was an awesome celebration as we danced the night away, truly amazing how much fun you can have on the island with only nine (9) guests not bad for a first attempt and I would really like to thank my colleagues for all the help. Truly a great beginning for the year ahead.
