This research was limited to the subject taught, the research took place in the public speaking class and was limited only to determine the level of fear and anxiety of the students and their perception of the psychological problems they face in the public speaking class. The research was further limited to the psychological problems faced by the students in the public speaking class, and this research only focused on the psychological problems in terms of students' fear and anxiety in the public speaking class because these psychological problems were often faced by the students. were meeting.

Public speaking is defined as “a sustained formal presentation made by a speaker to an audience” (Sellnow in Ibrahim; 2012). Coopman and Lull (2012;14) state that public speaking shares some characteristics with other forms of communication, but also differs in several ways. Public speaking is different to speaking while speaking only in the form of a conversation consisting of two or more people, but public speaking is more challenging and puts more pressure on the speakers themselves.

The characteristic of public speaking is dynamic, so that public speaking can be a resource as an activity that responds to changing phenomena. Public speaking website (2014) stated that this is the problem most people have when it comes to public speaking. As quoted in (Ibrahim and Yussof:2012 p.575) For an ESL student in a public speaking class, performing a task in front of the class increases communicative stress, and is predicted to lead to a reduction in fluidity and complexity.

The Public Speaking Power website (2014) has shown that anxiety is more serious than natural stress and nervousness, and people know it is anxiety when people experience symptoms such as hot flashes and chills, chest tightness or sometimes people even feel a tightness around the throat. . Fear of public speaking is relatively common, possibly in the range of 20-30% or more (Lynch; 2014). In some cases, this can lead to more serious problems with social anxiety and can have a detrimental effect on functioning. The aim of the Public Speaking course was to introduce students to the speaking process.

The English Education Department used the public speaking course, which aims to encourage students to excel in public speaking. The public speaking course will be a good medium for the English education department students to learn their public speaking skills for their future careers. Even in public speaking classes, which are a good opportunity for them to practice their public speaking skills, they sometimes get frustrated and feel anxious about speaking in front of their friends in class.

These negative feelings will also affect their performance, some of them will be passive in class and will neglect public speaking classes. Public speaking classes will teach all skills that involve public speaking and oral communication such as speaking and MC.

Conceptual Framework

After knowing the students' perceptions, the lecturer understood and hoped to make the appropriate adjustment to make the public speaking class active and successful. Student perceptions can also be as students' response to the topic of public speaking, the purpose of which is to train students' confidence and ability to speak in public situations, but it is not easy to manage the subject of public speaking because in a class consists of different characteristics, personality backgrounds and abilities. The students' perceptions will be a good input for the lecturer in order to organize a good methodology in teaching public speaking.

The questionnaire presented the analysis of students' level of fear and anxiety in public speaking class. How are the students' perception towards psychological problems faced in the Public Speaking Class of the English Department?”. Based on the students' responses, the researcher concluded that there were five main causes of students' fear and anxiety when speaking English in public speaking classes. What is the impact of fear and anxiety you feel on your performance in public speaking class? How to deal with the fear and anxiety you feel during public speaking class.

It shows that most students often felt fear and anxiety in public speaking class. There were several factors that caused fear and anxiety of public speaking based on students' perceptions. Students realized that psychological problems such as fear and anxiety negatively affect their performance in public speaking class.

Furthermore, based on findings, there were several impacts of students' fear and anxiety on their performance in public speaking class. The students realize that these things can help them reduce their class fear and public speaking anxiety. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS

Findings on the Research Questions

The following table showed the result of the first subordinate research question, which was to find out the students' level of fear and anxiety in the public speaking class. The following questions from the interview concerned the students' opinion and experience of the psychological problems they faced in public speaking classes. What are the causes that make you feel fear and anxiety when speaking or performing in public speaking class. 2 out of 10 students or 20% said that they were afraid that their friend would laugh at them while acting or speaking English in the public speaking class.

Finally, 1 in 10 or 10% of students were afraid if they had not prepared before speaking English in public speaking class. Based on the students' responses, the researcher concluded that there are three influences of fear and anxiety that students feel when they have to speak English in public speaking class. 4 out of 10 or 40% of students said that the impact of fear and anxiety made them forget their speech and worry about all the things they had prepared in public speaking class.

Finally, 4 out of 10 or 40% of students said that the influence of fear and anxiety made them feel uncomfortable and lack confidence to speak English in public speaking class. Based on the students' response, the researcher concluded that there were several coping strategies that the students used to overcome their fear and anxiety in the public speaking class. Finally, 1 in 10 students were able to overcome their fear and anxiety of public speaking by maximizing their body language.

Discussions

Furthermore, 2 out of 10 students felt that they had to have a good preparation before they could speak in public. To substantiate the fact, the findings showed that from 6 to 10 students have experience in public speaking, but they still feel fear and anxiety when they have to speak English in public speaking class. Additionally, 4 to 10 students said they only had public speaking experience in public speaking class.

In addition, S6 also said that “I can share my experience in public speaking on how to gain my confidence. Based on the findings, all 10 students were asked if they felt fear and anxiety when speaking English in public speaking classes. All the students said they felt fear and anxiety while speaking in English in the public speaking class, regardless of their public speaking experience and speaking skills, the students still felt fear and anxiety in the public speaking class.

The main factor was that students were afraid of making mistakes while speaking English in public speaking class. Then the feeling of fear and anxiety when they looked into the eyes of the audience and fear that other students will laugh at them when they performed in public speaking class are the second factors. There was a sense that other students were better than themselves and had not been properly prepared before speaking became the final factor causing students to feel anxious and apprehensive about public speaking performances.

Second, there was a communication breakdown due to the students' lack of confidence, which made them uncomfortable to speak English in the public speaking class. The result of this research showed that fear and anxiety have a negative impact on their performance and presentation in public speaking classes. Students perceived that class fear and anxiety about public speaking had a negative impact on their performance in public speaking class, such as students forgetting their speech and disrupting their speech preparation, students being confused and stopping to speak, making students uncomfortable to speak English in public speaking class.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

The instructor of the public speaking class should emphasize students to speak actively by giving them more public speaking experiences and make them aware that public speaking skills are important for them, moreover the skills of public speaking are related to our discipline as teachers 2. Speaking needs training and more practice for students in order for the public speaking class to develop effectively, not just giving them some topics and t 'let them speak, but it would be better if the teacher gives training from the speaking process, teaches them the right way in public speaking and some coping strategies to deal with their fear and anxiety.
