GESKIEDENISBEOEFENING

(‘DOING HISTORY’)

Die Tweejaarlikse Konferensie van Die Historiese Genootskap van Suid-Afrika Universiteit van Pretoria

6 7 Julie 2012

Hierdie jaar se tweejaarlikse konferensie van die Historiese Genootskap van Suid-Afrika (HGSA) sal fokus op die verskillende fasette van ‘Geskiedenisbeoefening’ (‘Doing History’). Dit is � oproep vir historici in hulle verskeie spesialiseringsvelde om hulle navorsing en ervaring te deel. Die doel is ook om � forum te skep vir die nagraadse komponent van die historiese gemeenskap waartydens hulle blootgestel sal word aan die omvang en diepte van die dissipline, en deur self referate voor te dra, aan � forum van ervare kollegas. Die organiseerders versoek voorstelle vir referate, panele en werkswinkels waarin aspekte van die historiese nering binne die breë tema, ‘Geskiedenisbeoefening’ (‘Doing History’), na vore gebring word.

Hierdie aspekte sluit die volgende in, maar is geensins daartoe beperk nie:

� Historiografieë

� Teorieë

� Metodologieë

� Konvensionele en alternatiewe bronne

� Argiewe en ander versamelings

� Die skryf van referate, artikels en monografieë

� Nuwe en ou geskiedskrywing

� Navorsingsonderwerpe

� Gevallestudies

� Hindernisse en die oorkoming daarvan

� Genres

Hoofsprekers: Prof Ian Phimister (Universiteit van Sheffield) en Prof Bill Nasson (Universiteit van Stellenbosch).

Die konferensie vind van 6 tot 7 Julie 2012 op die Hoofkampus (Hatfield) van die Universiteit van Pretoria plaas. Die konferensiefooi is tot die absolute minimum beperk (R750.00 en R500.00 vir studente) ten einde deelname aan te moedig. Beperkte befondsing sal beskikbaar wees om akkommodasie gedeeltelik vir nagraadse studente te borg. Referate wat by die konferensie gelewer word, sal vir moontlike publikasie in Historia, die HGSA se geakkrediteerde tydskrif, oorweeg word. Studente wat graag vir die Nagraadse Studenteprys wil inskryf moet volledige referate teen die 15 Junie 2012 instuur.

Opsommings van nie meer as 300 woorde nie moet voor 31 Mei 2012 aan Karen Harris ([email protected]) gestuur word. Voorstelle vir werkswinkelbesprekings en panele met tematiesverwante voordragte is veral welkom. Sluit asseblief jou volle naam, titel, affiliasie en e-posadres by alle korrespondensie in.

Paneelvoorstelle moet opsommings en die kontakgegewens van al die deelnemers (3-4) insluit. Beide studente en akademiese deelnemers sal versoek word om as paneelfasiliteerders op te tree.

Call for Papers

‘DOING HISTORY’

The Historical Association of South Africa Biennial Conference University of Pretoria

6 – 7 July 2012

This year’s biennial conference of the Historical Association of South Africa (HASA) will focus on the different facets of “Doing History”. It is a call for historians in their respective fields of specialisation to share their research and experiences. The aim is also to give the post-graduate cohort of the historical fraternity a forum where they will be exposed to the wealth and depth of the discipline, while also being able to present papers to a forum of experienced colleagues. The organisers invite proposals for papers, panels and workshops highlighting aspects of the historical craft around the broad theme of ‘Doing History’. These may include, but are by no means limited to the following:

o Historiographies o Theories o Methodologies

o Conventional and alternative sources o Archives and other collections o Writing papers, articles and monographs o New and old histories

o Specific research topics o Case studies

o Obstacles and overcoming them o Genres

Keynote speakers: Prof Ian Phimister (University of Sheffield) & Prof Bill Nasson (University of Stellenbosch).

The conference will be held on the Main Campus (Hatfield) at the University of Pretoria from 6 to 7 July 2012. The conference registration fee been kept to an absolute minimum (R750.00 with students R500.00) to encourage participation. Limited funding will also be available to part sponsor accommodation for postgraduate students. Papers presented at the conference will be considered for possible publication in Historia, HASA’s accredited journal. Students that wish to enter the Post graduate student award for best conference paper must submit a full version of the conference paper before 15 June.

Abstracts of no more than 300 words to be sent to Karen Harris ([email protected]) by 31 May 2012.

Proposals for workshop discussions and panels of thematically related papers are particularly welcome.

Please include your full name, title, affiliation and email address in all correspondence. Panel proposals should have abstracts and contact details for all participants (3-4). Both student and academic participants will be requested to act as panel and workshop facilitators.

 Complete papers by postgraduate students due by 15 June to enter the Post graduate Student Award

 Notification of acceptance of Abstracts by 15 June 2012

 Registration for Conference opens immediately

 Final Date for Conference Registration is 30 June 2012
