CHAPTER IV RESEARCH RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
A. Research Results
In this section, we will discuss the results of research on improving students’ vocabulary using the recitation method. The research process was divided into three stages: pre-research conditions or pretest, research implementation consisting of cycle 1 and cycle 2, and reflection.
1. Finding of Pre-test
This session was conducted on 6th of August. In this session, the researcher was gave the students a test which consists of 20 questions, 10 of multiple choice and 10 of essay. This test aims to knew the weakness of the students in vocabulary.

2. Finding of Cycle 1 a. Planning
In this step, the researcher creates an action plan based on the problems faced by students in mastering vocabulary. The researcher also made a lesson plan based on teaching materials and prepared post test 1 to determine students’ abilities and wether students scores improved from cycle 1 to cycle 2.
b. Acting
Cycle 1 was consisting of 4 meetings which is on 7th, 10th, 14th, and 21st August 2022. In this session, the researcher was act as the teacher based on the lesson plan, and the English teacher was acts as the observer who would observes the activity during the teaching and learning process. For more explanation, it would explain bellow:

Post-test cycle 1 1) First meeting
First meeting was conduct on Sunday, 7th August 2022. The material was about “the weather”. The teacher enter the class, greeting all the students, and checking their attendance. In this first meeting the teacher explained the objectives and procedures of the learning process. The teacher also explained the concept and the step of the recitation method that was used as a method in this learning process.
Before continue to a lesson, the teacher asked the students the first question related to the material. “Do you ever felt cold?” Some of students answered “yes”.
The teacher asked again “how you express the condition?” But no one answered it. So’ the teacher continued the learning to help students to understand the materials they were learning. The teacher gave the text to the students and asked to find the difficult vocabulary and underlined it. The teacher gave time to students to ask a question. The last of the main activity, the teachers gave a task to find out the meaning of the vocabulary in a text given.
Before closing the class the teacher concludes the material and gave a motivation to students. After that the teacher closed the lesson.
31 2) Second meeting
Second meeting was conduct on Wednesday, 10th August 2022. The material was about “An Invitation to dinner”. The teacher enters the class, greeting all the students, and checking their attendance. After that the teacher explained the previous material.
In this meeting, the teacher gave a text and asked students to translate the text and looked for a new vocabulary that were not understood. After that the teacher asked students to present their answer and teacher gave the evaluation.
The teacher concluded the material and gave a motivation to students. Then, the teacher closed the lesson.
3) Third Meeting
Third meeting was conduct on Sunday, 14th August 2022. The material was about “At the seaside”. The teacher enters the class, greeting all the students, and checking their attendance. After that the teacher explained the previous material.
In this meeting the teacher gave a text and asked students to look for a new vocabulary and gave a task to make a short story related with the material. Students collected the task and teacher gave the evaluation.
The teacher concluded the material and informed students that they would have a test in next meeting.
Then, the teacher closed the lesson.
4) Fourth Meeting
Fourth meeting was conduct on Sunday, 21st August 2022. The material was about “At the seaside”. The teacher enters the class, greeting all the students, and checking their attendance.
This meeting was the last meeting of cycle 1 and the teacher gave a test which consists of 20 questions, 10 of multiple choice and 10 of essay.
32 c. Observing
In this session, the teacher of SMP Al-Hikmah Utan was acts as an observer who observes activities during the teaching and learning process. Observer used the observation activities checklist that has been prepared by the researcher.
This observation checklist was for researcher as the teacher and students. The observer only needs to give a mark (√) based on real conditions inside the class.

However, several aspects need to be improved such as the teacher explains the objectives and procedures of learning and the teacher explains the concept and the step of Recitation Method

From the table above shows that the percentage of students’ scores is 76. 78% which means that students was learn a good enough. However, several aspects need to be improved such as the students make some questions from the text, the students present their assignment, and the students attention during the learning process.

Based on the results of observation in cycle 1, the researcher and the teacher found several positive results and some weakness, there were:
1) Positive results
a. There was an improvement in students’ vocabulary from pre-test 50. 23 to post-test 78. 80.
b. Students were more active in English lessons. They did the tasks seriously.
2) Weakness
Although the students were active in the class, but there were some of students who are still passive and did not pay attention to the teacher when explaining the lesson. Also, there is who unconfident to present their task; it was because she did not carefully attention to the teacher’s explanation.
37 3. Finding of Cycle 2
a. Planning
The action plan of the cycle 2 is made based on the problems and students results in cycle 1. The researcher prepared the lesson plan with the same modification in the first cycle. Moreover, the researcher prepared an observation checklist of students’ and teachers’ activities and test for cycle 2 to know the improvement of the research.
b. Acting
Cycle 1 was consisting of 3 meetings which was on 24th, 28th, and 31st August 2022. In this session, the researcher was act as the teacher based on the lesson plan, and the English teacher was acts as the observer who would observes the activity during the teaching and learning process. For more explanation, it would explain bellow:

Post-test cycle 2
1) First meeting
First meeting was conduct on Wednesday, 24th August 2022. The material was about “Travelling”. The teacher enter the class, greeting all the students, and checking their attendance. In this first meeting the teacher explained the objectives and procedures of the learning process.
In this meeting, the teacher gave a text and asked students to looked for a new vocabulary that were not

understood and teacher help students to found the meaning. The teacher gave a time to students to ask some questions. After that the teacher gave a task to students related with the material. The last the teacher asked students to present their answer and teacher gave the evaluation.
The teacher concluded the material and gave a motivation to students. Then, the teacher closed the lesson.
2) Second meeting
Second meeting was conduct on Sunday, 28th August 2022. The material was about “The Departure”.
The teacher enters the class, greeting all the students, and checking their attendance. After that the teacher explained the previous material.
In this meeting, the teacher gave a text and asked students to translate the text and looked for a new vocabulary that were not understood. The teacher gave a time to students to ask some questions. After that the teacher gave a task to students related with the material.
The last the teacher asked students to present their answer and teacher gave the evaluation.
The teacher concluded the material and gave a motivation to students. Then, the teacher closed the lesson.
3) Third Meeting
Third meeting was conduct on Wednesday, 31st August 2022. This meeting was the last meeting of cycle 2 and the teacher gave a test which consists of 20 questions, 10 of multiple choice and 10 of essay.
c. Observing
In this session, the teacher of SMP Al-Hikmah was acts as an observer who observes activities during the teaching and learning process. Observer used the observation activities checklist that has been prepared by the researcher.
This observation checklist was for researcher as the teacher

and students. The observer only needs to give a mark (√) based on real conditions inside the class.

Based on the results of observation in cycle 2, the researcher and the teacher found several positive results and improvement, there were:

c. There was an improvement in students’ vocabulary from post-test 78. 80 in cycle 1 to post-test 90 in cycle 2.
d. All students were more active in English lessons.
They did the tasks seriously.
e. All students were paying attention to the teacher explanation during the teaching and learning process.
f. Students more confident to present their task.
