16. To complete his First Year a candidate shall (a) pass in four subjects ; or (b) be passed by the Faculty in the Year as a whole in accordance with the principles set out in Section 6. A candidate who has completed his First Year and who passes either in three additional sub-
jects or in six subjects in all shall thereby complete his Second Year. A candidate who has completed his Second Year and passes either in three additional subjects or in nine subjects in all shall thereby complete his Third Year.
17. A candidate who has satisfied the requirements of Section 13 may be admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Science.'
18. At the Honour Examinations candidates may compete for any Exhibitions or Scholarships in the subjects of their course that are available for competition by candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Science as set out in Section 10 of this Regulation. Such Exhibitions and Scholarships may be awarded only—
in the case of Division A to candidates who pass or obtain honours in not less than three subjects of that Division at the one examination and who have not previously passed in more than two subjects of their course:
(b) in the case of Division В to candidates who, at the one examina- tion, pass or obtain honours in not less than two subjects of Division B or who pass or obtain honours in one subject of Division B and in not less than two other subjects of their course.

the Faculty may on the recommendation of the heads of the Depart- ments concerned permit the work to be carried out in some other laboratory.
3. A candidate shall be required :-
(a) to pass a written examination or viva voce examination or bothy in certain aspects of his subject, which aspects shall be notified to the candidate before the end of the first term of
his course for the degree; .
(b) to submit for examination a detailed report on any investiga- tions carried out in accordance with Section 1;
(c) to pass at the Annual Examination in any subject or subjects prescribed by the Faculty.
4. A candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Degree with Honours) may not except by special permission of the Faculty enter at the Annual Examination for any subject other than those prescribed for the completion of the course for that degree.
5. The examination shall be for Honours only and First, Second and Third Class
Honoursmay be awarded.
6. A candidate who has fulfilled the conditions prescribed may be admitted to the Degree of Bа c:

DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN FORESTRY (Calendar, Chap. III, Reg. XVII)
1. Candidates for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Forestry must comply with the conditions prescribed either in Part A or in Part
В of this Regulation.

In each Part the word "candidate" means a candidate proceeding under that Part.
PART
A
2. This Part shall remain in force only so long as the Council on the advice of the Faculty of Science is satisfied that the work of the Australian Forestry School Canberra is of University standard.
The Council shall on the recommendation of the Faculty appoint some officer or officers who shall visit the Australian Forestry School at Canberra at least once annually and report to the Faculty on the general educational facilities including courses of study at the School and on the standard of the work performed.
3. A candidate for the Degree must subsequently to his matricula- tion pursue his studies for at least four years.
4. No candidate shall be admitted to examination in any subject of any year of the course except Mathematics unless he has performed in the University during his First and Second Year or at the Australian Forestry School at Canberra during his Third and Fourth Years all the practical work prescribed by the Faculty in that subject or has satisfied the Faculty that he has had the necessary practical training elsewhere.
In every such subject the examination shall be in part practical.
i The examination will be held in December of each year.

5. The subjects of the Pass and Honour Examinations for the First Year shall be—
Botany Part I
Chemistry Part IA or Chemistry Part IB Physics Part I and
General Mathematics ( Pass only) or Pure Mathematics Part I or Geology Part IA or such other subject as may be approved by the Faculty in special cases.
To complete his First Year a candidate shall (a) pass in the four subjects, or
(b) be passed by the Faculty in the Year as a whole. In award- ing such pass, the Faculty shall take into account his perform- ance in all subjects in accordance with principles determined by the Faculty from time to time and approved by the Prof es- sorial Board. A candidate passed by the Faculty in the Year as a whole who has not passed in any particular subject shall not be recorded as having passed in that subject and shall not be permitted to proceed to Part II of that subject but shall be permitted to proceed with other subjects of a later year of the course for which a pass in that subject may be pre-requisite.
Except by special permission of the . Faculty no candidate may enter on the Third Year of the course until he has com- pleted the First Year.
6. The subjects of the Pass and Honour Examinations for the Second Year shall be—
Botany Part II and
Agricultural Chemistry or such other subject as may be approved by the Faculty in special cases.
Candidates who pass in Botany Part II and one other subject shall thereby complete their Second Year.
7. At the Honour Examinations of the First and Second Years candidates shall be eligible to compete for the Exhibitions and Scholar- ships open for competition at the Honour Examinations of the First and Second Years of the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Science.
8. Candidates who have completed their First and Second Years may be admitted to the Third Year of the course at the Australian Forestry School Canberra.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary the Faculty may admit to the Third Year of the course candidates who have completed the First and Second Years of the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Science provided that the Faculty is satisfied that the subjects passed by the candidate are relevant to the course in Forestry.
Candidates who have passed the Third Year of the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Agricultural Science may be admitted to the Third Year of the course for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Forestry.
9. The subjects and details thereof for the Third and Fourth Years shall be as set out in the Handbook of the Australian Forestry School

Canberra subsequent to approval by the Faculty. Candidates who satis- factorily perform the practical work and pass the examinations pre- scribed therein shall thereby complete their Third and Fourth Years.
10. Candidates may be admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Forestry who have—
(1) Completed the course herein prescribed.
(2) Produced a certificate either from a Forest Authority approved by the Faculty of Science or from the Australian Forestry School, Canberra, that during their course they have had a total of forty weeks' practical experience, whether consecutive or not, provided that if a candidate has had practical experience with two such Authorities, or with such an Authority or Authorities and the Australian Forestry School, he shall be permitted to add together the various periods.
(3) Presented a dissertation on some branch of Forestry approved
by the Faculty and certified as of sufficient merit by examiners
approved for the purpose. A dissertation under this section
shall be examined in a manner similar to that prescribed in
Statute XVI Division IV for the examination of theses for
higher degrees
