RULES COMMON TO ALL BUSINESS STUDIES DEGREE COURSES

1. Registered students may, subject to the modes of offering of their course, enrol as full-time, part-time or external students. Full-time students normally attend classes during the day while part-time students normally attend during the evening. However, students may elect or be required to attend some classes at times other than the normal time for their enrolment type.

External students must, except with Dean of Faculty, reside outside t.he area so that they are precluded full-time or part-time students.

Students who have sat for the Senior Examination:- Must have obtained the minimum total score for their course or better in the specified number of subjects which must include the prescribed subjects* with a minimum score of 4 points in any prescribed subjects; provided that applicants with a score of 3 points in one of the prescribed subjects may be allowed to enrol if their total score over five subjects is sufficiently in excess of the minimum, and should apply for special consideration.

(iii) Applicants 21 years of age and over:-

their total score over 5 subjects is sufficiently in excess of the minimum, and should apply for Special Consideration.

Applicants in this category must be 21 years of age or older on or prior to the 31st December of the year in which the last relevant result was obtained.

3. Special Consideration

Students who do not meet the requirements for normal entry may present documentary evidence of qualifications, experience or other. relevant information for special consideration by the Admissions Committee.

4. The specific entry requirements, subjects and other work comprising the Accountancy, Communication, Health Administration, Management, Public Administration and the combined Accountancy/Laws courses respectively are those listed in Rules 14, 18, 23, 26, 30 and 35 for full-time students, Rules 15, 19, 22, 24, 27 arid 31 for part-time students, and Rule 22 for external students.

Incompatible subjects are listed in Rules 16, 20, 28, 32.

5. Except in exceptional circumstances and with the approval of the Dean of Faculty, a student in a degree course who is a full-time student may enrol only in subjects selected from those contained in the normal course programme for semesters 1 and 2 in their first year of study. Similarly, a student who is a part-time student may select subjects only from those listed for semesters 1,2,3 and 4 in their first two years of study.

Timetables are arranged on the basis of the normal programme for each course. See Rules 14, 15, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31 and 35.

To gain an award students must satisfactorily complete the requirements of their course as specified by these rules.

6. To be credited with a semester subject, a student must

obtain a pass in the assessment programme and satisfy

such assignment requirements as are approved by the

Academic Board of the Faculty of Business Studies.

7. Except in exceptional circumstances and with the approval of the Dean of Faculty, a student who is a full-time student in the degree course may not enrol for more than five subjects comprising not more than twenty formal hours per week in any one semester and a student who is a part-time or external student may not enrol for more than three subjects comprising not more than eleven formal hours per week in any one semester.

8. Students retain credit for all subjects passed in the semester in which they are enrolled.

9. A student who fails one or more subjects in a semester may re-enrol and repeat the subjects failed, and may enrol for other subjects of the programme, subject to course rules, provided the timetable permits enrolment in the subjects desired.

Except with the approval of the Dean of Faculty, may not enrol for any subject in their course unless they have obtained credit for all prescribed as pre-requisite subjects in the attached to these rules.
