It was envisaged that Bedford Park would be an academically autonomous campus for the University of Adelaide. Towards the end of 1965, the South Australian government decided to make the University of Adelaide at Bedford Park a fully independent university under the name The Flinders University of South Australia.

THE FLINDERS UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA ACT

Subject to Article 15, council members elected by convocation are elected in accordance with the following rules:-. For the enforcement of the first paragraph of this article, the general secretary shall, at the request of the university council, make all the necessary entries in the registration book.

THE FLINDERS UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA ACT AMENDMENT ACT

All statutes and regulations of the University of Adelaide relating to its activities at Bedford Park in force immediately before the commencement of this Act shall remain in force as Statutes and Regulations of the University until superseded by Statutes and Regulations approved by Council and allowed by the Governor. The members of the Council elected by call will be elected in accordance with the following rules:-. l) In the first election and in every subsequent election by Call, four members will be elected to the Council.

BY-LAWS

MADE UNDER THE FLINDERS UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA ACT 1966

An authorized person may remove any vehicle from the university grounds without giving any reason. No one may use indecent language or engage in disorderly conduct on university grounds.

STATUTES

SCHEDULE 1 Standing Appointments

Promotions of staff are approved by the Council on the recommendation of the competent committee. There will be a standing promotion committee for each school, which will make recommendations to the Council on the promotion of members of the school's academic staff. If an appointed member is unable to attend a meeting of the committee, a substitute will be appointed by the chairman of the school concerned.

Half of the elected members retire at the end of each year and are eligible for re-election.

SCHEDULE 1

The Chairman of the Library Advisory Committee is elected by the Commission from among its members. The school board concerned may review a student's academic progress at any time. The person selected by the Presiding Panel will be the Chairman of the Disciplinary Board.

The combination of courses within each Program will be approved by the Council on the recommendation of the Board of the School of Mathematical Sciences (see Appendix:iix A of Appendix 6: Bachelor of Science Honors Degree).

SCHEDULE 3: THE ORDINARY DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS

Subject to approval from the School of Humanities Board, a student may undertake other courses and/or subjects offered by other schools of the University or the University of Adelaide, provided that the Head of the relevant discipline or his nominee, and/or or the University of Adelaide, agree.

SCHEDULE 4: THE HONOURS DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS

THE ORDINARY AND HONOURS DEGREES OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

The boards of the faculties of Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences appoint a Joint Examination Committee for Part I. The combination of subjects within each course is approved by the Council, on the recommendation of the Board of the School of Mathematical Sciences. . The combination of courses within each program is approved by the Council upon the recommendation of the School of Mathematical Sciences Board of Directors.

For the purpose of Annexure 5, the Council, on the recommendation of the Council of the School of Mathematical Sciences, approved the following courses within the Programmes:

PROGRAMMES Ml

A student wishing to progress to the Ordinary Degree in the School of Mathematical Sciences must, after completing Part I, enroll in the MI program for Part II. Every student must have his choice of electives approved by the professor responsible for the coordination of undergraduate education at the school, who in certain cases may submit the choice to the board for final approval. Normally, approval will be given to any of the combinations below, but the professor may require that choices under (d) be referred to the board.

PROGRAMMES

Topics will be chosen from the Part IV or Postgraduate courses in any field offered in the current year in the School; or in the Departments of Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, Computer Science or Statistics of the University of Adelaide. The combination of courses within each Program will be approved by the Council on the recommendation of the Council of the School of Physical Sciences. The combinations of courses within each Program will be approved by the Council on the recommendation of the Council of the School of Physical Sciences.

For the purposes of Schedule 5, the Council, upon the recommendation of the School of Physical Sciences Board, has approved the following courses within the programs:

Students who have taken 63116 Differential & Integral Calculus AI or 63114 Differential & Integral Calculus SI usually take 65251 Probability instead of 63241 Differential Equations I.

PHYSICS PROGRAMMES

This program is designed for the student who wishes to take the maximum possible number of electives in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics and a greatly reduced laboratory course. Entry to the Program is normally restricted to students who have achieved a sufficiently high standard in the Pl, P2, P3 or P4 Programme. This Program provides for complementary studies in Biology and can lead to Honors Physics or Biophysics.

Admission to the program is usually ·restricted to students who have successfully completed the P3 program or have good knowledge of both physics and mathematics.

PART III CHEMISTRY PROGRAMMES

This program in geochemistry is intended for students who wish to study both chemistry and earth sciences in Part III for an ordinary Bachelor of Science degree, or as a prelude to Part IV programs either in chemistry or earth sciences, leading to an Honors Degree. Access to this program is normally limited to students who have achieved a satisfactory level in Program PS. This program provides studies in both chemistry and biology in Part III towards an ordinary Bachelor of Science degree, or as a prelude to Part IV programs in chemistry leading to an Honors Degree.

Entry to this Program is normally restricted to students who have achieved a satisfactory standard in Program P7.

INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMMES P50 MATERIALS SCIENCE

It consists of a core of courses and four options, the latter offering the choice of additional courses in physics and mathematics, or in chemistry or earth sciences. Entry to this program is normally restricted to students who have satisfactorily completed the Pl, P2 or PS programs and it is one route into honors and postgraduate studies in chemistry. 70311 Materials Science I 70312 Materials Science II 70313 Materials Science III 73311 Statistical Thermodynamics 73318 Computer Methods in Chemistry 73320 Diffraction Methods in Chemistry 75311 Electronics and Circuit Theory 75321 Solid State Science.

Any option not included in the list above may be taken with the approval of the course advisor and subject to the timetable and requirements.

PROGRAMMES IN EARTH SCIENCES

This program is designed for students who wish to continue work in geophysics and geology for the Ordinary Degree. Admission to this Program is restricted to those students who have achieved a satisfactory standard in the SP or P 12 Program (Calendar 1973). This program is designed for students who wish to undertake work in Earth Sciences for the Ordinary Degree.

Entry to this program is normally limited to 10 students who have achieved a satisfactory standard in the Pl3 programme.

PROGRAMMES Bl BIOLOGY

Schedules describing the work to be performed for the degree are prepared by the school board and submitted to the board for approval. There will be such classifications of passing as determined by the school board. The syllabi of the courses offered in the medical school are prepared by the school's administration.

Normally two of the examiners appointed by the Higher Degrees Committee to examine a thesis submitted for the degree are external to the university.

ENROLMENT OF STUDENTS

RULES APPLICABLE TO STUDENTS ON UNIVERSITY PREMISES

The Union is an association of members of the University Council, staff, graduates and students. The following members shall be associate members of the Union unless they qualify for any other form of membership:. There shall be an Executive Committee of the Union Board which shall consist of the following:. a) The President of the Union.

The amendment will be approved by a two-thirds majority of the Board members:

THE STUDENTS REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

Subject to this constitution, the duties of all civil servants are determined by regulation of the Council. The council's financial year is from 1 January to 31 December. An emergency meeting of the Council is called by the Honorary Secretary:. a) at the request of the chairman of the Council.

The extraordinary general assembly of students is convened by the honorary secretary: i) at the request of the president of the council.

THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION

The aim of the Sports Association is to stimulate, develop and manage amateur sports within the university. Members of the Sports Association are ordinary, elected or extraordinary members, or honorary members. A). The acceptance or rejection of such an application is at the discretion of the Council.

A quorum for any meeting of the Committee is three of the members appointed by the Council.

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES ASSOCIATION

In accordance with the Association's regulations, affiliated clubs are entitled to receive grants from the Association's funds and use the facilities provided by the Association. An affiliated club and its members shall comply with the constitution, rules and regulations of the association and failure to comply shall subject the club to such penalty, which may include expulsion, as the council deems fit. In the event of a decision to expel a club, the council must notify the club's secretary for one month or, if there is no secretary or other official known to the council, cause the notice to be posted in a prominent place in the Union for a period of one month.

Members of the association must be ordinary members, honorary members for life, lifelong members or honorary members.
