FOREWORD
It is with real pleasure that I introduce you to Physical Feats, the graduation performance season of one of the finest dance training grounds in Australia at QUT's Academy of the Arts.
When QUT invited me to mount one of my works for this season, I was excited to accept the challenge of restaging my ballet Dark Waves with the talents of young, energetic students i Queensland's unique wide-open environment.
This is a theatrical and narrative work of psychological intensity and drama which chal the interpretive and dramatic skills of the dancers. The professionalism of their performan testament to QUT's focus on rigorous and relevant skills training.
In coming to Queensland, I discovered a refreshing openness to QUT's Dance Program, both climatically and culturally. Students have the opportunity to develop the highest skills in a wide range of dance styles, techniques and performances under the guidance of a healthy mix of respected permanent full-time, part-time, national and international staff and guest artists.
As Artistic Director of a major 'southern hemisphere' dance company, I am committed to the sharing of resources, guest teachers, choreographers and cultural experiences between countries- and commend QUT's focus on internationalism, including plans to tour Asia.
near future.
"
Physical Feats presents you with contrasting dance styles and showcases the professional which make these dance graduates well regarded by national and international dance
companies. I congratulate the QUT staff and students for their continuing enthusiasm, energy, innovation and commitment to their art form, and invite you to enjoy the culmination of their endeavours for 1992.

FOLK DANCES
TROUBADOUR
This work, a contemporary folk dance, was inspired by 14th century dance music from Italy Southern France. Exponents of this art were the 'Troubadours', poet musicians whose
spread throughout Europe. Their music played an important part in social evel'lts of le Ages. Many musicians were Arabs, Jews and Moors, and this music, taken from
nuscripts, has a strong Arabic flavour.
