December 2016, Vol 4
Competition Winner
We would like to congratulate Paula Britt from Centre of Education and Training on her
2 free movie tickets.
Staff were asked tell us what they believe are some of the cybersecurity risks in their work area and provide suggestions on
how they can be resolved.
Many of the responses were around allowing someone else to
use a computer with your log on details and sharing password
information.
Staff should only be using their own BHS credentials and not sharing out this information. To eliminate other staff using your details staff should LOCK their computers rather than leaving it
unattended.
FEEL LIKE A FREE COFFEE?
‘COFFEE with I.T’ is an initiative designed to get you away from the office and provide you with the opportunity to discuss your ideas or potentially have the I.T department offer suggestions on improving work processes for yourselves or your department. Improving a work process could mean saving staff time therefore saving the department and BHS wasted expenditure that could be resourced elsewhere.
Are you planningon having leave over the Christmas period?
If you need temporary access user's files (e.g. if covering for someone on leave), where appropriate have your manager contact the IT helpdesk. They will be able to grant the access rights under your own ID, without compromising the ID of the person who is out of the office.
ARE YOU PLANNING ON LEAVE?
NEED HELP?
Staff can contact the I.T Helpdesk between 0800 – 1630, Mon – Fri on:
P: 5320 4786 ext. 94875 OR E: [email protected] The BHS I.T department
would like to wish staff and families a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.
The I.T department will be open 0800 – 1630, Mon – Fri and closed for public holidays.

Because we all use a variety of devices every day, cybersecurity isn’t just about protecting corporate networks or organisational assets. Each of us has plenty of data – personal information – that should remain personal and not be used against us for extortion, identity theft, or as part of a scam.
It’s telling that we lock our doors when leave home, or lock our cars when we arrive at work, and yet don’t consider the safety of the data on our computers when we browse the web or install an application. And there’s actually a lot you can do to help ensure your data remains yours. There are plenty of guides online, but a good summary includes:
Use complex passwords over simple ones, and don’t re-use passwords between sites and services. If you find passwords hard to remember, use a password manager.
When on offer, use two-factor authentication. This is becoming more common now with various services to ensure others can’t log in as you, even if they manage to attain your passwords.
Learn to recognise phishing emails
– listen to that nagging voice in your head: if it sounds suspicious, it is.
Banks, government services, and reputable companies won’t ask for your login details over email.
CYBERSECURITY FACTS
POLICY & PROTOCOLS
A reminder staff can access the ‘User Responsibilities
of Email and Computer Network’ Policy and the
‘Internet Access’ Protocol by logging into the intranet
and clicking on ‘My details’. Located under the
‘Important documents’ tab there will be a list of Policy’s and Protocols for
staff to read.
The cost of cybercrime is growing exponentially:
The average cost of cyber- attack to an Australian
business is $276,000.
Globally, cyber-attacks costs businesses as much
as $US500b annually.
Cybersecurity is a major threat but also an enormous growth
opportunity:
The global cybersecurity industry is projected to be
worth $US639b by 2023.
PROTECTING YOUR PASSWORDS
Password sharing is a very serious security issue and should not occur in BHS. Employees generally share their login credentials with each other on a daily basis, most often because they need to give colleagues access to their machine to delegate work or because they are out of the office.
If going on leave you can also delegate your Inbox, Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, and Notes.
“Delegate Access” allows the people you nominate to see, edit or send items on your behalf. To delegate your email access - Click on:
FILE > INFO > ACCOUNT SETTINGS and select Delegate Access.
