CONGRATULATIONS
to Amity Booth for being runner up in the BTS Women’s Open Singles, and to Grant Chamberlain as runner up in the BTS Men’s Open Singles – a fabulous achievement ! And to Iain Birtwhistle for his win in both the club B grade Men’s Singles, and also the pairs. Great effort to someone who’s enjoyed squash, tennis, cricket, rugby, golf and now bowls in his life. Well done to one of our seniors Doug Cole for his win with Iain in the pairs. How good is it to get your name on the honour board again at the age of 87?Social bowls – The final game of barefoot bowls for our ten Div 1 teams and twelve Div 2 teams will be on 7th March and Elise Archer has again agreed to sponsor and present the trophies. It has been a great season, raising about $1500 or more each month for the Club. It has been organised capably by Alan Farr and Helen S, supported by barbecue cooks.
Pennant bowls :
Midweek – This week brings us to the end of our home and away games with Div 1 just missing out on finals, Div 2 either 1st or 2nd and Div 4 2nd or 3rd. We wish both those teams all the best for the finals and encourage members to come and cheer us on. (JJeffery)
Thursday pennant – Final roster games were played last Thursday. Div 5 ended up 5th. Both Divs 2 and 3 maintained their status in their new upgraded divisions this year so congratulations! Div 1 made the four by the ‘skin of their teeth’ - anyone’s welcome to come and barrack at SB this Thursday as they play a semi final.
Saturday pennant – The season started with 78 available players to fill 72 positions. By the end of the season we only had 71 available players. Thanks to the members who offered to fill-in to help us field a team each week.
Two of the 5 teams (Div 3 and 5) advanced to the finals and we wish Div 3 all the very best now in the Grand Final on Saturday week. Venue TBA. Well done.

Thank you to George for getting those extra women’s sizes in the WATERPROOF jackets. Remember ours will be in club colours and will be $80. Let George know your size so he can put in a big order. They will only be made to order so no stock will be kept.
From the board – you’ve probably noticed the rabbit droppings on and around the 2 grass greens. We have been in touch with the Council and it seems the rabbits have quite a large territory. Soon we will be
informed of treatment to occur in order to deal with the problem.
There have been concerns expressed about the condition of our two grass greens, and with the generous offer of a substantial donation from a club member TasTurf will do the resurfacing of green 2 during the winter.
From the Vice President Pat Zapotocky
The final round of the Statewide Challenge was played on Sunday 25th Feb. It was an opportunity for our Club to showcase our greens and facilities. The venue looked amazing due to the effort of many volunteers doing their very valued tasks. How proud I was of the meal Bucks provided. The comments from all around the room were so positive – “Fantastic meal; amazing salads…” Congratulations to Helen S and Lindy and the army of catering helpers.
The Challenge was very successful for our club financially and socially. Apart from the meals and bar trade,
$240 was raised from the raffle provided by one of our sponsors AVEO Well done to every volunteer who responded to the tap on the shoulder.
(well done Iain Birt who rattled the money tin among all the spectators)

QUIZ NIGHT - Friday 16
thFeb -
a happy night attended by 55 people – about half from the club and half from barefoot bowls. We made a profit of over $500 (after paying the Quizmaster), plus plenty of money over the bar. George’s table contributed generously to the bar takings !Solar Panel Project – report from Max R
The solar system was connected on the 15th February. Many thanks to the donors and volunteers who made it all possible.
The club received over $5,000 in donations which covered the expenses for the alterations to the roof structure and the shed to accommodate the Inverter. The money was also used to pay for the building engineer, the building surveyor and the Council charges.
The volunteers did all the work required to strengthen the roof trusses and the lintel support above the windows. Then everything had to be reinstated with plastering and painting etc. Well done to all those involved.
In the 2 weeks of operation, the system has produced over 1600 Kwh of power. The energy produced by the system will reduce our payments to Aurora and those savings will service the ‘interest free loan’ that we secured through the Tasmanian Government. The system is ‘self-funding’ and will not impact on the club finances. The cost of the system was $42,790. We received a Federal Government rebate of $16,000
meaning we only had to borrow $26,790. The loan is over 5 years and the monthly instalments are $460.00.
It is expected that the savings over 20 years will be in the order of $150,000.
