Another slte was needed to expand universal fac1hnes and in 1961 the South Australian Government made available to the University of Adelaide 370 acres of land known as Bedford Park, seven miles south of CNY. Towards the end of 1965, the Government of South Australia decided that the University of Adelaide at Bedford Park would become a fully autonomous university under the name The Fhnders University of South Australia. The necessary leg1slauon was passed in early 1966 and came into effect on 1 July 1966. Flinders University was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Ehzabeth, the Queen Mother on 25 March 1966, a few weeks after the first students were enrolled.

6 (l) Of the five members of the Council appointed by Parhament, two shall be appointed by the Legislative Council and three by the Assembly. IO (1) Subject to subsection (2) of this section, members of the Council elected by the academic staff of the University shall hold office for four years from the dates of their appointments and shall thereafter be eligible for re-appointment. Members elected by the Senate of the University of Adelaide to hold office until 1972 12 (I).
18 (I) All questions which must come before the Council or Convocation respectively, are decided by the majority of the members present.

AMENDMENT ACT
Amendment of the Principal Act 9 - Term of Office 6 Section 9 of the Principal Act is amended by excluding subsection (2). Term of office of members of the Council appointed by the scientific staff 10. (1) Subject to this Act, a member of the Council elected by the scientific staff shall hold office for a term expiring on the appointed day in the fourth year following the year in which he was elected, but is subsequently eligible for re-election. 11 (I) Under 1ecl to this Act, a member of the Council elected by the convocation shall hold office for a term expiring on the appointed day in the fourth year following the year in which he was elected or last re-elected as a member of the Council, but will then be eligible for re-election.
12. l) Subject to this Act, a member of the Council elected by the support staff shall hold office for a term expiring on the appointed day in the second year following the year in which he is elected, but shall then be eligible for re-election . .
BY-LAWS
10 No person shall bring in a vehicle or allow a vehicle to remain or remain on University property except for a specified purpose of University business or University education. 12 An authorized person may remove any vehicle from the university grounds without giving reasons. 15 No one may throw deposits on the university grounds or leave behind waste, paper bottles or glass (whether broken or not) or any other waste of any kind.
16 (1) No one may dispense any alcohol on the University grounds or keep or consume any alcohol on the Univers1ty grounds without the consent of the Council or its representative.

4 A copy of the 1ns1gn1a approved by the Council shall be kept by the Secretary. 5 1ns1gn1a of the University is used depicted and displayed only in such a way and under the conditions approved by the Council of the Universtty. The following regulations apply to the proceedings of a committee of inquiry in relation to a complaint or report relating to a member of academic staff.
The University Registrar shall assist the Vice-Chancellor in such manner as the Vice-Chancellor may require in the performance of duties.
SCHEDULE I
Proposals of staff members are approved by the council at a meeting of the competent committee. 3 The chairman of the library advisory board is elected by the board from among its members. 2 Regular elections for the selection of two members of the academic staff shall be held on a specified day each year.

ENROLMENT OF STUDENTS
RULES APPLICABLE TO STUDENTS ON UNIVERSITY PREMISES
The library's holdings now comprise over 380,0001 volumes representing many areas of knowledge, but with particular emphasis on the immediate curriculum and research requirements of staff and students. 2 The following persons have the right to read in the library (a) Members of the University Council. Council requests that Umversuy wuhmg graduates 10 use the library 10 make a deposit of $10. Any fines imposed under library rules can be recovered from the deposit.
4 The persons listed in clause 2(1) of Secuona II may borrow books from the main book collection for a period of two weeks. No borrower may own more than four volumes belonging to the library. 7. The affairs of the Union shall be administered by a Bodrd. 8. The board consists of the following members: (a) E:i. 25. There shall be the following standing committees to advise the Board on financial matters and matters relating to the functioning of the buildings of the Union. It will then appear on the Board of Directors table and be placed on the Union Noucc board until the next regular meeting of the Board.
The amendment is adopted by a two-thirds majority of the members of the board of directors.
THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION
8 Members of the Sports Association are ordinary elected members, extraordinary members or honorary members. 15 (a) The colors of the Sports Association are those of the University, namely dark blue, light blue and white. The three elected members of the Council are elected annually through an election organized by the Secretary at the beginning of each year.
The quorum for each meeting of the committee is three members except the secretary.
CLUBS AND SOCIETIES ASSOCIATION
The amendment shall be adopted by a two-thirds majority of the members present at a meeting of the Council. Council means the Council of the Fhnders Un1vers1ty of South Australia. I-Iall means Un1vers1ty Hall. 7 The affairs of the Hall are administered by the Council. 8 The Council has the following powers.
22 (1) The council is responsible for the proper administration of the hall's financial affairs and property.

The Educational Research Unit was established in late 1975 with two full members of academic staff, a director and a senior lecturer. From time to time, the staff of the Unit may include research staff and members of the academic staff of the University. secondment. In addition to conducting a number of studies for individuals and disciplines, the unit's university staff have conducted research in areas such as background characteristics of students and understanding performance and misconceptions in the natural sciences among students from non-scientific backgrounds, features of medical education in Australia and recent developments and major changes in post-secondary education. The Educational Research Untt maintains close links with other similar untts in several Australian universities and colleges and in particular with the Advisory Center for University Educauon at the University of Adelaide. The collaboration between the Educational Research Unit and the Advisory Center for University Education included the provision of workforce development programs as well as 101nt research programs.
The Educational Research Unit publishes an occasional newsletter and a series of Occastonal Papers describing special research activities undertaken by Staff Director P. F. SHELDRAKE.
