The Australian Government is proposing changes to the national eHealth record (PCEHR) system, including renaming it the My Health Record system, and the Healthcare Identifiers Service, in response to reviews of each system undertaken in 2013. The purpose of this consultation is to seek feedback from the

community and health care providers to inform the development of legislative changes.

eHealthNT Happenings

In this edition of eHealthNT Happenings, we are pleased to announce that an important milestone was achieved in the My eHealth Record to national eHealth record transition project. All Northern Territory Public Hospitals are now sending Emergency Department Discharge Summaries, InPatient Discharge Summaries and Specialist Letters to the national eHealth record.

The Territory is the first jurisdiction in Australia to be sending Specialist Letters to the national eHealth record.

This publication is produced by eHealthNT in collaboration with the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) and the Northern Territory Medicare Local (NTML).

NT Health

As mentioned in the introduction all Northern Territory Public Hospitals are now sending the following documents to the national eHealth record.

• Emergency Department Discharge Summaries

• InPatient Discharge Summaries; and

• Specialist Letters (first jurisdiction in Australia)

Clinical staff at NT Public Hospitals can also view information in the national eHealth record. Clicking on ‘Green Kanga’ takes staff to the revamped eHealthNT Clinical Portal where clinical staff at hospitals can gain access to national eHealth records. Clinical staff at NT Health-operated health centres will have this capability rolled out progressively commencing the end of June.

Before staff access information in the national eHealth record, they must be aware of their roles and responsibilities in using the national eHealth record system. These are covered in national eHealth record Training Module One, which can be completed online using MyLearning, the NT DoH Learning Management system. See details in this newsletter under Training.

For further information, please contact the eHealthNT Clinical Services Team on 1800 247 430.

Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory

AMSANT’s Engagement Team has continued to work with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) and NT Health-operated health centres, to engage and register patients for the national eHealth record. Over the last two months the team has been on the ground talking to and registering Aboriginal people throughout the NT including Alice Springs, Darwin, Tennant Creek, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Ngukurr, Minyerri, Beswick, Elcho Island, Yirrkala, Hermannsburg, Batchelor, Tiwi Islands, and several more.

Further, the team has been working with services to audit patient’s Medicare details so that their Individual Health Identifiers can be downloaded into their systems. Our key message to all ACCHSs is that now is the time to be registering your patients to the national eHealth record and for your staff to be using it, as all NT Government Health Services will go live in just a few months.

For further information contact AMSANT on 89446651.

Northern Territory Medicare Local

The Northern Territory Medicare Local (NTML) eHealth team has recently visited Alice Springs to engage with consumer groups and health care providers about the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) system.

When the eHealth team has been based in the Darwin office they have been busily delivering various workshops on eHealth topics.

The eHealth team is wrapping up the third and final series of the eHealth workshops this month and are pleased to announce that each workshop is recorded and available for viewing via the NTML website.

The six workshops provide a comprehensive overview of the PCEHR system, as well as cover in detail, all of the phases of registering and implementing the system.

13th National Rural Health Conference

eHealthNT in collaboration with Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory and the Northern Territory Medicare Local, had an eHealthNT information stand at the 13th National Rural Health Conference, held at the Darwin Convention Centre from 24 May to 27 May 2015.

The conference was a great opportunity to showcase the successes of eHealth in the Northern Territory to people from all sectors engaged with health and wellbeing and exchange information with health professionals from all disciplines.

The eHealthNT booth attracted many visitors and we were able to highlight the achievements of the My eHealth Record to national eHealth record transition project so far. Also, despite not advertising assisted registration, NTML registered 16 consumers for the national eHealth record during the conference.
