The course must extend over at least three years, but subject to the foregoing requirements the subjects may be taken at any time and in any order.
A Candidate is deemed to be pursuing his first year until he has received credit for at least two subjects of his course, and thereafter to be pursuing his second year until be has received credit for six subjects of his course.

FACULTY OF ARTS.Bachelor of Arts (BA.).—
(2) Honours Degree.--Eight subjects must be taken in the course for this degree, some at the Honour standard and some at the Pass standard. The course must extend over at least three years. Lectures are not compulsory, but the Essay and other special work demanded is such as to make it practically impossible to undertake an Honours course apart from attendance at the University.
There is a Final Examination at the end of the course, admission to which requires that a place in the Class Lists must have been obtained in such of the subjects of the course as the details of subjects prescribe, and that all additional subjects required in the course must have been passed at least twelve months prior to the date of the Final Examination.
The required *subjects are arranged in either Honours Schools or Combined Courses, which are as follow:—
For the standard at which the subjects of the approved Combined Courses, as set out, are to be taken, and the Examinations in connection therewith, refer to the requirements of the preceding Honour Schools.
Other combined Courses may be approved by the Faculty. Students proposing such are required to submit details of the same on a special application form, obtain- able from the University Office, for the Faculty's approval before proceeding therewith.
FEES PAYABLE.
The fees are the same as for the ordinary degree except that in the Final Year the total fees must be brought up to Seventy guineas (£73 10 0).
If a Part I. Science subject is taken (except Pure or Mixed Mathematics) an additional fee of £2 2 0 is payable, or £5 5 0 if Natural Philosophy II. is taken.

43 (3) Master of Arts (M.A.) .—Candidates must be Bachelors of Arts of at least one year's standing, and Milt pass an examination in one of the following five 'Schools:—A. Classical Philology; B. History and Politi- cal Science; C. Philosophy; D, Mathematics; E. Modern Languages and Literature; or must have been classed at the Final Examination for the Bachelor's degree with 1st or 2nd Class Honours. Before being admitted to the degree, candidates who have qualified in either of the above ways must be Bachelors of at least two years' standing.
FEES PAYABLE.
Fees payable are as follows:—If the M.A. examination is taken the fee for examination is £3 3 0, and a further
£9 9 0 is payable for the degree. If the candidate pro- ceeds by qualifying at the Final Examination for the Bachelor's Degree with Honours the fee for the degree is
£12 12 0.
(4) Doctor of Letters (Litt.D.).—Candidates must be Bachelor of Arts who are of not less than seven years' standing since they became entitled to the Bachelor's degree, or graduates who have held some other degree for at least seven years. They must be already distinguished by published contributions to learning, and must submit, printed in whole or in part, a work containing an original and substantial contribution to some branch of letters, which may be accompanied by other printed and published work by the candidate, and the total of such work shall be considered by the examiners. Any work submitted for the degree must be satisfactory as regards literary presenta- tion.
