VICTORIA by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith and so forth To all to whom these presents shall come greeting :

HEREAS the Crown land hereinafter described has since the commencement of the Act of the Parliament ot Our Colony of Victoria numbered 3G0 (being the " Act to Amend and Consolidate the Laws relating to the Sale and Occupation of Crown Lands") been lawfully permanently reserved from sale by the Governor of Our said Colony with the advice of the Executive Council of the same for the pur- poses hereinafter appearing and possession of such land has been given Now know ye that in order to provide a site in the City of Melbourne at Carlton in Our said Colony for a Recreation Ground for the members of the University of Melbourne and ot the affiliated colleges and for the under- graduates and students ot such University We of Our own special grace have granted and for Us Our heirs and

•successors do hereby grant unto the University ot Melbourne incorporated under and by virtue ot an Act of the Lieutenant- Governor and Legislative Council ot Our said Colony made and passed in the sixteenth year of Our reign numbered thirty- four intituled " A n Act to Incorporate and Endow the University of Melbourne " and to its successors All that piece ot land in the said Colony containing Sixteen acres and twenty-seven perches more or less at Carlton in the City ot Melbourne Parish of Jika J i k a County of Bourke delineated with the measurements and abuttals thereof in the map drawn in the margin of these presents and therein coloured yellow Together with all the rights members privileges and appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining Reserving aud excepting unto Us Our heirs and successors the use ot all such parts of the said land as shall be required for making

railways canals watercourses reservoirs drains or sewers over in upon or through the same with full and free liberty of in- gress egress and regress into out of and upon the said land for such purposes To have and to hold the said land and premises unto the University of Melbourne and its successors I'rovided nevertheless and We do hereliy expressly declare that this Our Royal Grant is and shall be subject to the con- ditions provisions and declarations hereinafter mentioned (that is to say) That the said land hereby granted and the buildings for the time being thereon shall be at all times here7

after maintained and used as and for a Recreation Ground for the members of the University of Melbourne and of the affiliated colleges and for the undergraduates and students of such University and offices and conveniences connected there- with under and in accordance with the said Act and with such statutes and regulations as shall from time to time be made by the Council of the said University pursuant to the said Act and for no other purpose whatsoever ' I'rovided also and We do hereby further declare that if the body politic and corporate of the said University shall be dissolved or by any means'become extinct and be no longer existent or shall permit or suffer the said land and premises or any part thereof to be used for or applied to any other than the pur- pose aforesaid or shall alienate or attempt to alienate .in fee- simple or for any less estate or interest the said land and premises or any part thereof save and except under and in pursuance of some law now or hereafter to be in force within the said Colony it shall be lawful for Us Our heirs and suc- cessors by any person or persons duly authorized in that behalf by the Governor or other officer for the time being administering the government of Our said Colony to re-enter upon the said land or any part thereof and to hold possess iind enjoy the same as fully and effectually to all intents and purposes as if this Grant had not been made IN TESTISIOSV whereof we have caused this Our Grant to bo sealed with the Seal of Our said Colony.

WITNESS Our trusty and well-beloved Sir GEOBUE . FEK- GUSOX BOWEN Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Our said .Colony of Victoria and its Dependencies at Melbourne in Victoria aforesaid this twenty- third day of March in the thirty-seventh year of Our reign and in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.
