Early release of QCS Test student grades

Purpose

To inform schools about arrangements for the early release of 2014 Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test student grades.

Information

For the first time, students’ QCS Test results — graded A–E — will be released prior to senior certification in December. This is because the QCAA is committed to releasing results as early as possible and providing senior students with an incentive to access their learning account before certification.

This year students can access their individual result from 9 am on Tuesday 18 November via their learning account on the Student Connect website: www.studentconnect.qcaa.qld.edu.au.

The following day, schools will be able to access their students’ results via a report on the QCAA secure website: www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/secure_site/Login.do. Scaling parameters are still being determined and will not be released at this time.

Final Year 12 results and OPs and FPs will be available in student learning accounts from 9 am on Saturday 20 December.

Students’ QCS Test results will be confirmed on the Senior Statement they receive as part of their Senior Education Profile sent to them in December.

Schools are reminded that a student’s individual QCS Test result does not determine their OP.

Instead subject and school group results from the QCS Test are used as part of statistical scaling processes undertaken to calculate students’ OPs. Using group data enables the QCAA to make a fair and equitable comparison of the achievements of students in different schools studying different subject combinations.

Student Connect website

Students must know their Learner Unique Identifier (LUI) and password to log in and check their QCS Test grade on the ‘Enrolment and Results’ page of their learning account on the Student Connect website. Students will be able to access their results more quickly if they have previously activated their learning account.

Schools are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure students have been issued their LUI.

What you need to do

• Ensure all senior school teachers and guidance officers are made aware of the arrangements for the release of students’ QCS Test grades on the Student Connect website and QCAA secure site from 9am on Tuesday 18 November.

• Inform students who sat the QCS Test that their test grade will be available in their learning account from 9 am Tuesday 18 November.

• Make sure students have their LUI and encourage them to activate their learning account before Tuesday 18 November.

Assistance with reissuing LUIs

• Schools are reminded they can quickly and easily print lists of student names, LUIs and passwords from the SLIMS Registration and Banking System, which may assist with reissuing LUIs to Year 12 students. An instruction sheet outlining how to do this is available on the QCAA website at: www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/1161.html

Finding out more

For help downloading students’ LUIs, please email [email protected] or phone (07) 3864 0269.

Please note, the QCAA will be closed on Friday 14 November due to the G20 summit.
