Any changes that are subsequently approved by the Council of the Board will be communicated. The Institute of Early Childhood Development, as a separate part of Melbourne College of Advanced Education, specializes in the development, care and education of children from birth to eight years of age.

Bachelor of Education Degree Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood)

Bachelor of Education Degree in Teaching (Early Childhood). at least three Group 1 subjects as accepted by Victorian Universities and at least one Group 2 subject. In addition to academic qualifications, an interest in children and in the field of early childhood development and education are considered essential attributes for those admitted to the course.

STRUCTURE OF THE REVISED COURSES

There are special entry places for mature applicants who do not fit into the above categories. Details of all application procedures and closing dates are sent with I.E.C.D. In addition, a separate application is required through the Victorian Universities Admissions Committee, on the form in the Guide for Prospective Students, available at the end of the second semester through schools or from the Committee, 40 Park Street, South Melbourne, 3205.

THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT STRAND

Subjects

Formative Experiences: World War I and the Depression of the 1930s Social Change. The main literary modes in English - the novel, the short story, poetry and drama - provide the structure and forms of the course.

Part 3 moves from the broad base of Parts 1 and 2 to more specific studies

Bachelor of Education Course Committee, a standing committee of the Board responsible for both the Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) and Bachelor of Education courses. Students enrolled on the Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) course prior to 1982 will continue their studies at Part 2 and Part 3 levels of the uncorrected Diploma.

Diploma of Arts (Child Care Services) Associate Diploma in Arts (Child Care)

A special entry alternative (see also page 59) requires work experience in a childcare center and evidence of ability to complete the course. For Part 3 studies, qualifications include successful completion of Part 1 and Part 2 studies (or their equivalent); normally at least one year of relevant work experience undertaken after gaining a basic qualification in childcare;.

ASSOCIATE DIPLOMA/DIPLOMA MODELS SHOWING AREAS OF REQUIRED STUDY

Further aspects of physical care, such as nutrition, health and safety are considered and a study of the use that can be made of community resources in the care context is included. Routines and the scheduling of the child's day in relation to needs for sleep, rest, play, relaxation, food and interaction with others and his environment.

The role of the childcare worker as a referrer: an overview of the services available to families and individuals. Section A continues the study of the family, through the topics 'Family Work and Leisure', and 'Family Policy and Australian Society'.

Observation of the behavior of those whose adaptation matters; analysis of problem behavior of the individual in the group; analysis of behavior in the wider cultural setting; This includes an exploration of the concepts of work and leisure, exploring the extent to which family work and leisure are compartmentalized in individuals' lives and experienced differently due to gender, social class and cultural differences in our society.

An examination of the social barriers, as currently understood, and the extent to which they impede social equality within Australian society. Students also acquire a knowledge of the role of play and leisure in the lives of children and adolescents and of elementary techniques for planning activities for children in care.

  • Advanced Programme Planning Skills (2 units) Programming concepts: what is a programme?

While Part 1 emphasized learning the basic skills of participating in such activities, Part 2 emphasizes skills involved in organizing these activities and the childcare worker's role as referee, umpire, coach, etc., in relation to such activities. This subject also extends the interpersonal skills training offered during the first two years of the course and introduces students to a study of social policy related to care, and the implementation of such policy. In this subject, a close connection is developed between the theoretical concepts related to administration (Part B) and the management skills listed as Part A.

Innovations in the physical environment: introduction to some current trends both in Australia and overseas in relation to buildings and playgrounds. By examining management practices within the childcare field, it is hoped to explore the theoretical concepts that can underpin these. Bureacracy: Organizational structures in relation to childcare and the extent to which these meet the children's various needs.

    • Changes to the unit values of subjects in Schedule 1 will be determined by the Board from time to time

An applicant may be admitted to the course with advanced status including block credit, on such conditions as may be specified by the Institute from time to time. The Institute may grant credit for previously completed studies not currently offered by the Institute, provided that such studies are consistent with course objectives. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, accepted as such by the Course Committee, the leave period cannot exceed one year.

GRADUATE COURSES

RADÛA E COURSE

For full-time students, a review will be carried out at the latest at the end of the 2nd year. semester, and preferably before the end of July. Any student who disagrees with a recommendation from the Student Assessment Committee and the Course Committee has access to appeal in the first instance to the course committee and then to the Board of Studies. If the committee's recommendation to interrupt the student's course is accepted by the board, this appeal must be made to the board.

An overview of dance anthropology; dance in the context of cultural evolution (religion, art and therapy). Watts, E., Towards Dance and Art. The course will consist of 20 two-hour lectures/discussions held over two quarters of the academic year. A transcript of record of components undertaken and the grades (high distinction, distinction, credit, pass, fail) achieved in each will also be provided on completion of the course. The student may obtain a transcript of all those components of the course completed up to the time of withdrawal.

Graduate Diploma in Special Education (Early Childhood)

In addition, students will be required to carry out supervised teaching practice in special school settings or of atypical children integrated into normal programs.

FOR KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS The practicum is composed of three areas

Work experience requires students to work in a center for people with severe disabilities eg Kew Cottages, Autism Centres, etc. Students must adapt to the center plan and complete the tasks assigned to them. For this part of the assignment they must make their observations in the light of the information contained in the references placed throughout the course.

The Graduate Diploma in Special Education (Early Childhood) is awarded in one class only by the Melbourne College of Advanced Education Council on the recommendation of the Institute's Board of Studies to students who have completed the course requirements. Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance

DEFINITIONS 2.1 Course

Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance 4.2 Special access for a limited number of candidates with another qualification (e.g. T.P.T.C., T.I.T.C.) may be granted, provided they have the necessary professional experience and provided that the proportion of special access students who are enrolled in the course at any time does not exceed that portion of the total number of enrollments determined by the Accreditation Body. To be eligible for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance, students enrolling in the course must have satisfactorily completed 36 units, each consisting of 10 hours of face-to-face contact, together with a minimum of 30 to ask. hours per unit. Students who are allowed to take a break will not have their break period counted against the maximum time allowed to complete the course.

Graduate Diploma in Infant Education

Graduate Diploma in Infant Education Knowledge of factors to consider in teaching social studies to infants. Realism and the use of symbols: A study of the pictorial language of children and artists. Diploma in Infant Education. mathematics, play, music and movement and exploring the natural environment.

Master of Education (Early Childhood)

If the progress of a candidate is judged to be unsatisfactory, the program committee, on the advice of the Higher Degree Committee, can suspend or terminate the candidate from the programme. Before registration and after consultation, candidates are assigned a supervisor and, if deemed appropriate, a co-supervisor by the Higher Degrees Committee of the Institute. It is the task of the Advisory Committee to do this. a) assist the candidate by providing advice if requested (b) ensure that regular consultations take place between the candidate and the supervisor (c) act as a liaison group between the Higher Degree Committee and the candidate.

Research

In the Graduate Diploma in Child Development course, students can choose to undertake up to 60 hours (one sixth of the course) in the form of a supervised individual research project. Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance can complete a special study comprising from three to six units. In the master's program in child care, students are required to complete a project of four units, which comprises one ninth of the total units to be completed.
