TERMINOLOGY
A summary of the common terminology used by the Lighting Designer to reinforce a shared language between the Designer, Head Electrician and Lighting Console Operator.
All Fixtures:
- Bring up channel _ - Take that channel out
- Pan onstage/offstage or left and right - Tilt the fixture up/down
- Half that/Split the difference - Lock that off
PC and Parnel Fixtures:
- Open barn doors
- Long barn door US/DS OR across stage (PS/OP) - Flood or spot
PARcan Fixtures:
- Ceramic US/DS OR across stage (PS/OP)
Source 4 Fixtures:
- Shutters out - Open Iris - Take out gel
- Small and sharp/large and sharp - Sharp to the shutter/gobo - Hard edge (blue)
- Iris in
- Bring this shutter in OR
- Bring the physical left/right shutter in - Put the gel in
- Frost that OR
- Soften that (back lens forwards)

into nine acting areas, as shown here. In this document, the numbers in square brackets (e.g. [1]) indicate these acting areas.
If the centre of the LX beam is focused between two acting areas, the numbering in the square brackets indicates those two areas e.g. [1/2].
