Modern History — teacher calibration workshops
Purpose
To notify schools about Modern History teacher calibration workshops offered in each district in Term 2, 2016.
Background
The Queensland Government will introduce new senior assessment and tertiary entrance systems, starting with students entering Year 11 in 2018.
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) is leading the transition to the new assessment system through a number of initiatives, including the calibration trial.
Calibration is a process of fine-tuning reviewer and teacher judgments to support consistent application of standards.
Information
As part of the calibration trial, the QCAA is offering free Modern History teacher workshops for one teacher from each school with a Modern History cohort.
The workshops will focus on making judgments using the Modern History 2004 syllabus.
Teachers will have the opportunity to view a range of sample student responses and engage in professional conversations about the syllabus standards with other history teachers in the district.
The schedule of workshops is available on the QCAA website under the PD and Events tab.
https://events.qcaa.qld.edu.au/Catalogue.aspx?yl=3.
The QCAA will fund workshop and catering costs. The QCAA is not funding teacher release or travel for participants.
Note: Modern History panellists who have already participated in the calibration trial are not expected to attend.
What you need to do
Ensure the relevant staff member is notified of the Modern History teacher calibration workshops.
Access the PD and Events page on the QCAA website to complete workshop registration as soon as possible.
Note: Only one registration will be accepted from each school.
