Reports:
President –
o Clubrooms – progressing slowly, some more sheeting has been done – thanks to those members who came out to help on the long weekend. Need to bear with the process ad realise it is still moving forward. Greens have been doing a bit after trainings to try to keep things moving. Still aiming for July 15th – may not meet that date but will try to do it as soon as we can.
o Painting will be coming up soon and we will need help for that. Henschke’s are coming to move sand. Bricks for retaining wall will be used up by extending walls.
o Asbestos Register – Sports Centre has contacted SE Asbestos to do other buildings – Derek will do hockey and has been approached by soccer – this will be important for future grants.
o As members we need to keep it foremost that we are all here for the benefit of hockey and put personal differences aside for the benefit of all. Set a good example for other and children, etc.
Treasurer – Report Tabled for period 20th May – 25th June 2017
o Total Income $6937.60; Total Expenses $16014.71 ($11000.00 for new clubrooms) Closing Balance $61075.80
Moved: D. James on behalf of A. Freeman, 2nd S. Ham – That Treasurer’s report be accepted. Carried
o Please double check player subscription invoices and player information.
Registrar – No report
I.T./Web & Publicity – No report
Junior Coordinator –
o USE U13 – Naracoorte and Tatiara representatives – girls struggled a bit as they were a lot younger than opposition teams. Boys did well, won a few games, just missed out on finals
o SAPSASA going well
o Jayne attended Junior/future of SAPSASA meeting in Adelaide on behalf of NDHA.
Umpiring –
o Andrew has been trying to deal an issue that occurred at Edenhope a few weeks ago. A learner umpire abused by another junior player who is also a learner umpire. Likely a better option to education rather than coming down hard with suspensions etc. Clubs need to keep an eye on learner umpires and support them by surrounding them with experienced umpires.
o Jacob Edwards umpired first senior game and Kimi umpired at Junior Championship weekend in Adelaide. There is lots of enthusiasm from learner umpires so need lots of encouragement and support.
o Need to start thinking about umpires for finals – do we look outside our association or use our own? Discussion on benefits of outside umpires. Andrew thinks our own umpires from the past few years have been good. Sometimes outside umpires can be a shock to the system as things can be picked up that previously hadn’t throughout the season. Will consider and make a decision at next meeting.
Grounds –
o Used new line marker last weekend – Grant will do up a cheat sheet on how to use.
Grant will help clubs use it when rostered on if they haven’t used it yet. 3 litres of paid does nearly 2 full fields. Special line marking paint – 1lt to 10lt water – 3x10lt drums should get through whole season. Possibility of hiring out.
o Back of some goals need to be fixed/replaced.
o Andrew removed a few hanging things from playground that weren’t safe – will look at trying to fix or replace.
o May need to look at overhanging branch over field 2 – end of season.
o May need to top up bark chips in playground – follow up next meeting, get from BioGro – rake up for now.
Canteen –
o Not much to talk about – not had lots of home games recently
Sponsorship & Fundraising –
o Some new business signs up on the fence
Club Reports
o K/L Rangers – Furner games coming up – starting to get fields ready.
o Greenbottles – no report
o WW Brolgas – Victorian policy has come into effect – need to put in place procedures to comply
Complaint about behaviour in women’s game on Saturday – for an issue like this to go further needs to be made official. Concern about how it looks to spectators, etc. What is actual procedure at the moment (on the day)? Grievance procedure flow chart available on notice board – for on field issues, approach
captain/umpires and allow them to follow up in the first instance.
Good sportsmanship is important (e.g. shaking hands, etc) but sometimes it can be a better option to let it go. Can be difficult for less experienced umpires to stand up to bad behaviour. Learners in senior games may not always be the best choice – need to look at this closer. Need to keep in mind that there are lots of juniors playing – reminder about code of conduct.
o Dartmoor – had a cookie dough fundraiser
o Redlegs – travelling ok, have picked up a few new players, have scraped through on a few weeks with numbers. Women doing ok with getting help when teams have a bye.
Feel like it might just be Red’s turn as other clubs have gone through a similar player lul – still actively recruiting.
Promotion of hockey in general might help everyone. Other sports in the area seem to be more self promoting than hockey is. Believe a lot of recruitment can come from summer comp – maybe need to push/plan more. Should try to build inter-club sportsmanship and cultures and encourage people to remember why we are here.
General Business
Trust account – Gayle spoke to Don Murdoch regarding updating NDHA on the state of the trust on a regular basis. Don has agreed to keep us informed as he receives financial statements.
Currently funds are in a PPHS account after maturing from the term deposit 3 months ago – approx. 4.5% interest on $11,000. Don will look into trying to use the NDHA ABN to avoid 50%
tax on income after trust ABN was cancelled by ATO.
Sports Centre – meeting Monday 3rd July, Gavin to attend
Rachel Mahney from tennis has sent an email to Derek regarding Sports Centre plans for the future and tennis forming plans of what tennis and hockey would look like together. Any further developments will be passed on to clubs.
HSA hasn’t followed up with their proposal to visit SE area.
Email from HSA –working on new strategic plan, etc. Hockey Australia did a review and 57% of funds go to high performance and only 7% to participation.
Meeting Closed: 8.15pm
