The Gibsonia Social Club
34;The Gibsonia basketball team took home the 'DZ' Grade flag for 1949 in the Victorian Night Basketball Association. Physical exercise was again the main attraction for the ladies this winter and was held at the Prahran Store. Six cricket teams are running their own home-and-home competition, making the Eagley team the premiers of the season.
34; Recreation Hall, Collingwood. – The management allocated this area to the central committee of the Gibsonia Social Club and it proved a great asset as several social dances and card nights were held there.” But perhaps the greatest interest of the year was the first interstate challenge between Melbourne and Adelaide. was played at the recreation center in Collingwood, where about 70 fans watched a tense battle for a beautiful trophy and flag donated by Mr.
So obviously a trip to Adelaide is on the cards for the Melbourne team and hopefully that can be arranged before the end of the year. The day appointed for this is usually the second Sunday of each month, but notification to the Secretary, Mr. Our trip to Beaconhills Country Golf Club in July is now but a memory, but it marked a milestone in the annals of Gibsonia Golf Club, as we had two distinguished guests on the occasion, in the person of Mr.
White, our president, on behalf of the Club, presented our guests with a fitting memento. As Mills and Stores equaled their overall scores, the organizers decided that these two teams would compete at Woodend for the electric clock (donated by Mr. A. D. D. Maclean), the trophy to be won outright by the lowest score of the winning team. After so much good practice the members were ready for the big gala day at Woodend on Sunday 9th October.
Presenting the above winners with their trophies, the President (Mr. Jack White), ably assisted by his Vice-President (Mr. A. Cornish), welcomed all our guests and especially thanked all the generous donors of the trophies for this special occasion. Two other trophies were presented, but if I mention one word about them, I would be in the soup - like a wooden spoon. Members of the class take this opportunity to thank those who supported this effort and thus helped the work of the class.
Eagley Stretches

And Also Takes Wings!
A YOUNG LIFE ENDS
When a member of the Foy and Gibson staff travels to another state, it is a great satisfaction to feel more than "just an employee." It is good to be welcomed as a member of a big family. By Qantas flying boat I left Rose Bay, and after 16 hours of flying, in the midst of heavy rain, I arrived in Suva, Fiji. This created a lot of mud and I believe most of it was in the rice fields, where I had to plow myself along to take some pictures of the Indians at work.
On a tour of the island of Viti Levu, we visited the gold mines in Vatukoula. During my stay in Fiji I had the honor of visiting many mission stations and schools, an orphanage and a hospital, both Indian and Fijian. One of my deepest impressions is the singing of the Fijians and the graceful movements of their mekei or native dances.
Sydney was in the grip of a violent storm, which made it impossible for the flying boat to land at Rose Bay and we had to drive to Brisbane, where we stayed two nights. In the Black Forest we followed the track of a cyclone that blew down trees and telephone wires, and we were delayed for hours on the road. Help arrived in the form of trucks with axes, saws and chains, and we continued on our way, just beating the East Gippsland floods by an hour or two.
A few days later I was home on the "Stratheden" and enjoyed every minute of the cruise. The decision of the Directors to repeat that popular innovation of last year, the Service Bonus, was widely appreciated. This very practical recognition by the Council of the loyalty and effort of those we may call the rank and file is of greater significance to the recipients than their awareness of the sharp feeling of an additional envelope.
We are sure that those who received the award - of course, it went to the hands of the majority of employees - saw it as a further expression of the goodwill and team spirit that characterize our organization. His years of experience, wide knowledge, multitude of friends, and likeable personality make Ward a valuable asset to the "Junior Partner." This popularity was very evident in the "shivoo" on August 2nd, when a good company of his friends - and the Foy's entertained him to dinner at the Devon Hotel, where he received the proclamation.
