EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
Students are expected to choose three subjects, in order of importance, from the following school subjects, of which at least two are chosen from Group A. Methods included in Group B may only be taken by teachers eligible for partial exemption from Practical Teaching. However, ЅchoоІ Library Practice and School Broadcasting can be taken by any student as additional method studies.
A reading guide and a list of reference hooks will be provided for each of the above subjects and, when the number of students so requires, these will be supplemented by a course of lectures and discussions. Demonstration lessons are held on various Sunday morning sessions during the first and second trimesters. The results of these exercises will be considered together with the Annual Examination.
PRACTICAL TEACHING
Partial exemption from Practical Teaching may be granted to the following classes of students. All teachers who hold a certificate from a training institution approved by the Faculty of Education and who have had a subsequent period of experience approved by the Faculty. In special cases, with the approval of the Faculty of Education, other arrangements may be made by the Professor of Education in lieu of the above.
All applications for partial exemption from practical teaching must be completed on a special form, which must be obtained from the School of Education and sent before 10 March. Unless they are principals, be under the supervision of principals (or approved assistant teachers) who are willing to send regular reports to the professor of education on their progress in the art of teaching, the responsibility being on the student to see that these reports are regularly forwarded. Students are required to reach a certain standard of efficiency in practical teaching during the year.
COMPARATIVE EDUCATION
Students who are exempt from attendance are not necessarily exempt from practical tests that are administered during or at the end of the year. Students who obtain a partial exemption from practical training under Sections 2(a) and 2(b) will normally be required to teach for three weeks in a prescribed practical school of the university, to attend discussion and demonstration classes , and to spend certain periods of time in observation, as directed. There is no formal test at the time of the annual examination, unless special circumstances warrant taking such a test, with candidates normally awarded an award or returned as passed or failed, depending on the standard achieved during the year.
If a student fails practical training, he must take all additional exercises and tests prescribed to him in the following year and may apply for a new test. As a general rule, he may not present again until September of the following year. If he teaches at an accredited school, arrangements can be made to take the test at that school.
