Committee News
Annual General Meeting
The 2017 AGM was held last Wednesday, 1 March, with 47 members in attendance.
The Committee for 2017/18 is:
President Ken Byatt
Vice Presidents Ralph George Kel Sullivan
Secretary Barry James
Treasurer Warren Phillips Assistant Secretary Malcolm Whalley
Committee Garry McKeough
Keith Cunningham Warren Thompson
Also, a ballot was held for the 5 Pennant Selectors, and the successful nominees were Kevin Brown, Ken Byatt, Gary Havron, Peter Nolan and Terry Rae.
In accordance with a Notice of Motion passed earlier in the meeting, these persons will serve only until the end of September 2017, when nominations will be sought for the 2017/18 year.
The reason for the change was logical. Previously, the club's year ended on 31 May, with the AGM (and elections) being held in August. With a change to the financial year to 1 January to 31
December (to tie in with Seven Hills RSL), the AGM has to be held by no later than the following 31 March.
With the Pennants season underway by then, and initial sides having been selected by the
selectors elected at the previous AGM, it is quite possible that there could be a complete change to the selection panel at the current AGM, with the new panel being faced with alternate ideas as to the composition of the sides, and this could present a dilemma as to go with the ideas of the previous panel, or their own. The change of election date for the selectors removes this dilemma.
Other non-executive positions filled were:
Patrons John Archer and Kevin Brown Auditor Brian Rothery
Welfare Officer John Archer Publicity Officer Michael Ryan
We thank you for your continued support.

News from the Women’s Club
Congratulations to Jenny Partridge, winner of our Major Singles and to Nerida King, runner up. It was a great game with Jenny always in the lead and Nerida nipping at her heels. There were 16 competitors for this title and some excellent, close games leading up to the final - well done to all.
Jenny is having a great start to 2017 also 'skipping' the winning team for the District Open Fours.
The team was Maree Jones, Karen Svenne, Helen Perkins and Jenny. Quite a feather in your cap, ladies.
Due to weather, either too hot or raining, we have found pennant practice very restricted.
However, practice or not, it starts on March 14, and we wish the 5 teams good luck - two teams in grade 1 and one team in each grade 2, 3 and 4. Social bowls is available both Tuesday and Thursday during pennants.
Have you noticed the email Seven Hills have sent advertising the club? It's great to see them advertising lawn bowls with young people participating. You have probably noticed that every time there is something on television relating to elderly folk, there we are - all lawn bowling!! Excellent concept Seven Hills.
Now worth trying ladies, are the Friday and Saturday night cocktails for $10 from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
This month’s cocktails are Mojito, Gin Mule and Cosmopolitan. For those who enjoy a gin and tonic or a little scotch on the rocks, it’s only $6. And keep your brain active - try Trivia on a Thursday night.
And now a joke the men will appreciate
One day a genie appeared to a Californian man and offered to grant his one wish.
The man said, ‘I wish you’d build a bridge from here to Hawaii so I could drive there anytime.’
The genie frowned, ‘I don’t know. It sounds like quite an undertaking,’ he said. ‘Just think of the logistics. The supports required to reach the bottom of the ocean, the concrete, and the steel! Why don’t you choose something else?’
The man thought for a while and then said, ‘Okay, I wish for a complete understanding of women – what they are thinking, why they cry. I wish I knew how to make a woman truly happy.’ The genie was silent for a minute then said: ‘So how many lanes did you want on that bridge?’
Now come on – we are not that difficult!
