NOTES ON REINFORCED CONCRETE.

THE SEWERAGE OF LONDON.*

Mr. H. C. MAIS read notes, communicated from England, on the "Sewerage of London," illustrating them by many diagrams and plans.

The PRESIDENT said the author of the notes was not present.

But their thanks were due to Mr. Mais for the trouble he had taken, and the kindly thought which prompted him to offer the cqntribution to them. It was a most excellently put together sequence of notes. He had seldom followed an account of en- gineering work of that kind with so much interest, and he thought the members would be glad to ask Mr. Mais to convey to the writer their appreciation of his work. The scene of the work was one of the thickest and richest spots on the face of the earth, and bristling with difficulties. They had only to look at the longi- tudinal section to see what had to be met with. He thought it would be a worthy ambition of any engineer to be associated with such. He trusted Mr. Mais would permit of their reproduction in the "Proceedings."

Mr. H. C. MAIS said he was prompted to ask the President's permission to read the notes because he believed they would be interesting to members. They were sent to him by a friend, and were not intended for publication, but he would communi- cate. with London in that respect. From what he could gather the work had been very successful, and had been carried through with very few accidents indeed.

In the more strictly engineering field, as applied to civil engineering structures, on the
