QUT is a member of the Australian Universities Technology Network, along with RMIT, UTS, UniSA and Curtin. The QUT Council consists of senior members of the professions for which QUT prepares graduates; appointed by higher education, government, commerce and industry; elected staff, students and Alumni members, as well as the University's Chief Executive Officer, the Vice Chancellor. The QUT Council is authorized to create committees and delegate powers to committees or University officials.
Although the Council is ultimately responsible for the management and operation of QUT, it has delegated authority to the CEO, the Vice-Chancellor and to various senior administrators of QUT for much of the day-to-day management of the university (see: MOPP Annex 3 - Delegations of powers). QUT committees are the main decision-making structure of the university and student representation is provided on both the university and faculty committees. Medals are awarded by the registrar, on behalf of the University Academic Board, on the recommendation of the faculty academic board concerned.
To complete one of the above degrees, graduates must have been enrolled at QUT for at least two years of full-time study or equivalent. For graduates of double degrees, University medals are awarded as appropriate for each of the component degrees.
