ROTARY PEACE FELLOWSHIPS Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 individ- uals from around the world to receive fully fund- ed academic fellowships at one of our peace centers. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.
In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 900 fellows for careers in peace building. Many of them go on to serve as leaders in national governments, NGOs, the military, law enforcement, and inter- national organizations like the United Nations and World Bank.
Check out the Rotary Peace Map to see where our alumni are creating positive change.

War stories from Black Opal Parking?
The Club’s crest & bulletin name reflect ‘Odin’ (Anglo-Saxon ‘Woden’), the ancient Nordic God of Wisdom.
Odin had two ravens called Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory) who flew forth every day and returned at night to tell him what they had seen, so contributing to his wisdom.

The club’s first meeting of Autumn was marked by fourteen members and six guests at Mike and Helen Rodd’s house in Yarralumla.
The meal was marinated BBQ beef and chicken, accompanied by potatoes au gratin, quiches and two salads. The seasonal pear, rocket and walnut salad was particularly appreciated by this reporter.
During the meal, we were treated to a diverting exercise, dubbed by Mike the “Magic Carpet”. A slideshow was playing featuring numbered photographs of locations around the world. We split into teams of three or

four and attempted to record the country, locality and feature of each picture. Since the photos had been submitted by club members, they formed an eclectic mixture, from purple sheds in Wanarn, to landmarks such as Uluru, to numerous exotic ski fields and dragon boating in Hong Kong. The game provoked lively discussion and bursts of attempted furtive whispering, although the speed of the transitions and sometimes quirky numbering system kept us on our toes. Mike’s captioned ‘hints’were alternately cryptic and amusing.
After sergeant Shukry amused us with a comparison of life now with that of 1915.
Celeste won the two-up with a bold choice of two-heads on the second throw that set her apart from all else. Bruce saw to it that the (red wine) prize only survived one night.
Gary Scott reminded us to be on deck for the Black Opal on Sunday, especially since some members were unavailable.
Past president Lyn was awarded with a bound set of Ravens that spanned her presidency.
The binding was organised as usual by John Gray.
Dessert consisted of pavlova and an icecream slice, augmented by strawberry coulis and a fruit plate.
After dessert the locations of the photos was revealed. One point was awarded for each of the country, locality and feature, for a possible total of about 150, depending on how many photos were actually in the show, which was a matter of debate. The winning team stopped counting points at 80. The prize was a gift-wrapped box of mini mars bars, which were kept for ‘later’
because no-one had any room left after
dessert. Nonetheless, Helen and Mike served after-dinner rum balls, caramel slice and espresso coffee.
