Wellington General Staff Service Excellence Awards
Annual awards are made to mark either sustained excellence or improvements to work practices. There are normally up to 2 individual awards and 1 team award made each year, depending on the quality of the nominations.
Aims
To encourage continuous improvement in service to both internal and external customers To develop a feeling of pride in working for Massey Wellington
To foster a sense of community amongst Wellington staff
Eligibility
All members of general staff and Student Services Trust staff based on the Wellington campus are eligible.
Teams are generally a work unit or sub-unit or a group that has worked on a particular service or project;
where appropriate one or two people outside the team including contractors working on site may be deemed eligible as part of a team award by the Service Awards panel on a case by case basis. Nominees for the individual award must have been employed here since at least the beginning of the calendar year.
Direct reports to members of the Senior Leadership team are not eligible. Individuals who won the individual award or teams who won the team award are not eligible the following year.
Criteria
The award for an individual or team will be for:
Sustained excellence in service to internal or external customers or Significant changes to work practices that have improved customer service
Nomination process
All nominations require a nominator and a seconder. Nominations may be made by:
an academic or general staff member who is a customer of the service or a student or students or
MAWSA or
a manager or colleague within the work area of the nominee/s.
Any one person may nominate or second only one team and nominate or second only one individual.
Nominations may result from feedback from external customers where appropriate.
Nominations are to be submitted to the Office of the Campus Registrar by the due date, normally 31 October each year. Comment may be sought from the immediate manager of the individual or team. If more than one of the manager’s staff is nominated, the manager may be asked to rank the nominees.
Recommendations for the awards will be made to the AVC and University Registrar by a Service Excellence Award panel appointed by the Campus Registrar.
Nature of the awards
Individual: a cheque to a value determined annually by the Campus Registrar before nominations are sought.
Team: team dinner or other group activity approved by the awards panel, eg outing to an event; total value depends on the size of the team.
