811 1ines connected to the fau1ted bus, is modified by adding a new 1ine, with the negetive impedance of' the 1ine to be opened. This e1iminates the necessity of modifying the entire system matrix, and increases the
speed of' the computation. The f'ormation of the matrices,
was ~ormed in steps taking one element at a time.

In this study the positive and Zero sequeIlce bus impedance matrices were first formed. The computer results

For a 3-phase fault, fault voltages and fault currents are given for the 'a'.phase oriIy~ For single line .to ground fault, fault voltages for all the phases are
-given. The fault- current. is given for the 'a'.'phase only because the fault currents in the other two phases are zero for this type of fault.

l.evel for single line .to ground faul t is higher than that of. 3 -phase toe-ground fault for some .of the generator .:~'buses .,This. is so.because,' the_.zero __sequence self impe-
dance of the bus impedance matrix is less than that of the positive sequence for the concerned buses. For all other buses. the 3-phase- faul t level is'higher--than ;-that of the line to ground fault. The highest fault :level as _..,.obtain-ed-'from. this 'study is 3917.1' MVA;-for=-a>'single-line
to ground fault simulated at the bus - Aushuganj - 2)0.
It is also observed ~hat all the fault levels for the 1987 network became higher than the corresponding values for the network for the year 1984. At Comilla, the fault level was only 542 MVA for the,year 1984. whereas the fault level for the network studied is 1788.6 MVA. This requires the replacement of circuit breakers with proper ratings. It is seen that for all the buses, the fault

levels become less when any line connected to the fau1ted -bus is-opened •.,-However,-the MVA Contributions.-from the
connected lines become higher when any connected line is opened. This is due to the increase in self impedances' and decrease in transfer impedances of the bus impedance matrix for ,the opening: of the line.
For a fault at. Ghorasal' ,;.-l)i bus, 'the highest fault contributions from the buses Ghorashal - 230, Ashuganj - 1)2 (double'"circui t) and Siddirganj---are 880.5 MVA,612.)-MVA and 4)4.) MVArespectively when the lines are opened at Ashuganj. - 1)2,- Ashuganj - 1)2 and Siddirganj respectively., The fault voltages for 'a' phase is much lower than that of' 'b' and 'c'.phases as shown in the resul tSj' because 'a "--phase is- short circuited ,---,-f'or--:single---l:ineto--'ground-f'ault.
